My ignition switch if getting worst. I would occasionally loose by blinkers and I could wiggle the key a bit and they would usually get them back. At Daytona last year Skip cleaned some contacts for me and it did work much better. Now, I switch the bike on and sometimes there is no power. Play with the key a bit and its ok. How difficult is it to replace the switch? Can I keep the wind screen on? Has anyone changed with switch to accept the original key? Thanks for any help?

If all you are doing is replacing the switch and not the mechanical part , then that only requires pulling the electrical component from the bottom of the assembly . Remove the headlight bucket and the windshield .

Usually it’s the contact plate on the bottom of the switch that gets messed up. It can be removed from the bottom, held on by two or three screws. Mark it so it’s easier to clock it on reassembly. it’s got a lead on it that plugs into the harness. Either unplug it or disconnect the battery so it’s not electrically hot. You can clean it, as I remember the contacts that stay in the bottom of the switch can fall out if roughly handled. The contact plate with the contacts and the lead used to be available as it’s a replaceable part but it’s part number is hard to find. I posted it here a year or so back so maybe you can find it as well as the experience of others who have been into it.

What ya'll need to realize is that Charles lives on the seacoast. Most likely the thing is corroded beyond FUBSR.
I think I have a spare one from parting out EVs that you could have,.. if I can find it. I think you can replace the switch parts without replacing the key mechanism. The 3 screws on the bottom have conehead tops that you can get started turning with a chisel and small hammer. Once started they come out easily

The two screws that hold the switch in place are Phillips, take them out and the switch comes right off.
The white plate with the contacts on tilts out by releasing one of the clips.
Wipe off the old grease and replace it with fresh Vaseline, none of your di-electric grease please.
The grease goes hard over time and holds the contacts apart.
When you put it back together try to immobilize the wires where they come out of the switch, if they are allowed to bend near the solder joint they soon get brittle and snap.

Does this look anything like it? 99% sure that I don't have the key for this one. It's missing the connector.

Ignition switch- I was riding my 01Jackal a few years ago and the ignition switch fell out - just dropped straight down and dangled. Good times, my friends.
