I had the 07 Calvin on centerstand to clean the rear wheel and noticed a slight bind turning it and can hear the u joint making noise when I used the stethoscope on the swing arm to locate so my question is who has just the u joints so I can rebuild the shaft as I've done plenty of driveshaft rebuild when I had old willys jeeps especially the one I put a v8 in it liked to do wheelies and I was 18
-
I'm pretty sure the Vintage has the newer u-joint and shaft as one unit. You need to replace the entire thing and it isn't cheap.
-
Yeah that's what I am seeing I was hoping the knuckles were available separately I'm sure they must cross with something, this is my daily ride so don't have a lot of time to fool around
-
MG Cycle has the cheapest I noticed, and it was still close to $400.
-
There is a guy in NE that rebuilds the older Tonti & Loop. His info is out there, I'm sure Charlie knows who name, starts with a C.
-
I can't afford a bunch of down time I am wondering if anyone has an old one to get measurements or a makers mark part number
To cross reference them I'm sure guzzi isn't the only one using those knuckles

John Chicoine rebuilds Loop and early Tonti u-joints, but I'm not sure he's ever done any late Tonti stuff. <jchicoine@verizon.net>
Tim: You might treading new ground here. You might need to pull the driveshaft and measure the "knuckles" to find a cross-reference. For small-blocks, Loops and early Tontis, here's one source: http://www.theujointstore.com/moto-guzzi.html

Allan (antmanbee) mentioned he remembered someone in Canada had them so I've been searching www found an outfit that sells Della Concordia u joints called technomec but I need to know what is in our driveshaft so I can get correct items so if anyone has a old unit for measuring purpose
-
Thanks Charlie, I don't have his info, I just by new ones.
-
If you have the bike on the center stand the rear suspension is at full extension which puts the UJ at maximum angle so what you are feeling may just be the UJ coping with that angle. Can you feel any play or slack in the driveline?
Maybe remove the wheel and the drive box and level the swinging arm with a jack so you can check for free play in the joint.
-
It makes a clicking noise when I also pushed
It in neutral definitely from the u joint the stethoscope confirmed it so it's getting ready to fail I was hoping not to have to spend for a whole shaft but not looking favorable like I said it's my only transportation so can't muck about
-
Tim I have the number for a salvage outfit in Canada that you may be able to get a low mileage used one at a good price. I got a great deal in a TPS sensor a couple months back. PM me if you want me to look it up.
-
Yes please do I pmd my information

Hey Dan If you've got info on a Canadian salvage outfit, go ahead and post it here, or please pm me the info as well.
Tks
Kelly
ps I seem to recall seeing a post recently about CVTech in Montreal selling some parts, possibly that was the outfit mentioned re U joint parts, fyi

Thanks Charlie, I don't have his info, I just by new ones.
Me too, most of the time.
-
Mine failed. One of the bearings locked up. The bike vibrated And made a 'clicking' noise at low speed. The splines on the back end were worn enough that I didn't even bother with trying to repair it.
-
I'm surprised that no one has sourced a replacement from Motion Industries or the like.
-
Any idea what sort of Bearings/Bushes are used in the UJ?
I'd be surprised if they couldn't be sourced and replaced.
They were assembled from parts by the manufacturer, so you might be able to find replacements.
-
Exactly what I was thinking someone on the v11 site mentioned that place in Canada for Della Concordia u joints they have a bunch listed but which do I need that is why I hoped one of our bunch here had an old one so it could be disected to gethe a part number off the crosses or at least a accurate measurement, but looking like I am going to just get the whole thing from us vendor as no one on flea bay has any new or used right now
-
There are several ebay vendors parting out Guzzis. Check out the listings for wheels and you'll find them. I can name a couple off the top of my head:
moto-dojo and pinwall cycle. Send a personal message asking if they have anything for you.
And then there's Harpers - I've heard they have a huge used parts selection.
-
That's on my to do list tomorrow and this week I've been working graveyard the past few weeks so I'm a bit of a zombie during the day I've landed a security gig for less pay after being permanently furloughed from Jared here in Jacksonville told we can reapply for position if or when they open for normal operations and my other half was a victim of a staffing cut due to pandemic so that is why I'm trying to be a bit more frugal than normal
-
Sorry I’m just getting back guys as I’ve been up to my arse in sea monsters and Sasquatch’s
Here’s the guy and his number, he’ll go out of the way to help you.

Just received an email from umberto at technomec says need dimensions of the u joint so if anyone saved the old one let me know
-
So I ordered the driveshaft they call the universal joint from MG cycle today as nobody had a salvage or old one to measure the universal joints from looking forward to the job then I'll see if old one rebuildabe as a back up
-
If it's the same dimension joint, here's the skinny. Replacement is a bitch but it can be done.

Thanks Jan,
I also saw you post this on the V11 forum.
I think both Tim and myself have already viewed your excellent video. It is much appreciated.

It's supposed to be here on Saturday hope removing the old shaft doesn't fight me too bad I remember my old quota came right out now problem not sure how tight it's in carrier bearing yet
-
The new driveshaft arrived this afternoon from MG cycle everything went back together without a hitch
The old u joint the one that mates with the transmission output shaft was locked up in one direction the other was fine but the yoke was worn where it goes into the carrier bearing so it's basically trash

Good deal Tim, glad you got her done👍👍
-
I think you can machine the other end to fit the carrier bearing. Get back to me if you decide to toss it.
-
I'm thinking of getting the replacement u joints and having the yoke metalized and turned down to fit the carrier or turning it down and sleeve it as a backup plan not sure how many total new driveshafts are left out on suppliers shelves bot then again 86k miles already on the bike might be the last one it's going to need
