Screwing up this thread isn't the answer , that's for sure .

Let me do some digging , have been trying to fix the Swag thread . Patience please .

Maybe some folks thought that “bumping” meant something else because it was being explained as a solution to something it normally isn’t described for. I was wondering how bumping a thread took care of long links. So basically you’re saying, keep the thread fresh and the issue will be seen? K, got it.

How is demonstrating that the proposed solution didn't work "Screwing up the Thread"?

Sometimes a "Sorry I got snarky, I didn't understand what you were asking" is the right thing to say.

The Swag thread is sorted .

Lannis , here is why screwing up this thread isn't a solution , what you did just messed up this thread , on purpose .

Sort of . Honestly I don't remember seeing a link that made the page spread out that far before . Normally you just need to scroll right for a bit , hit reply , do this a few times until the thread clears that page , Doing so will return the thread to normal size .

 Dusty

Oh , and calling another board member an idiot is a bit distasteful .

I simply copied the same address that was causing the problem on the Swag thread onto this thread, to try out the "Bump" solution you said was the answer.   If a thread was going to be "screwed up", this seemed like the right place to test it out.

It didn't work.   Bumping the post didn't fix the problem.   Your solution didn't work.   So you got rid of my post, accused me of "screwing it up", and did something different.

<SIGH>

Are you a troublemaker by nature , or is this a learned skill ?

The other thread is fixed , stop whining .

I just tried the bump on the “top ten car post”.   For whatever reason it got super long and tiny font. I bumped it but nothing happened?

You have to bump it until it clears that page .I have explained this , it isn't hard . On that thread it is just barely stretched out .

This thread is tedious and mystifying at the same time. The display of a thread can become extra-wide if a very long url or a very large photo is included in a post. Right? Is this the issue?

Then what the heck is bumping? How does one bump?

To ‘bump’ a thread is to simply respond to it in order to keep it relevant/at the top of the thread list.

So how does that fix a "too long URL" page-widening thing?

One man's troublemaker is another man's wiseass.  At least I think that's how the old quote reads.

I think both are inherent skills that occur to one by nature.  Very few have the patience required to practice either skill until perfection can be attained.

But if you need to practice either, I hear the internet has lots of places where all kinds of skills can be honed.

Hellfahr, I'm not even a troublemaker in this case ... I was trying to figure out the instructions.   It was "Who made the screen too wide?"  then it was "Fix it by Bumping the Post" then it was "I Tried It And It Doesn't Work" then it was explained with "Shut Up" ... and we still haven't figured out, other than deleting the original photo-link and replacing it with a TinyUrl, how to fix a too-wide post.

At least "troublemaker" is a promotion from "Arrogant Asshat", I suppose.

OK ,let's try this one more time . Never did I say that one bump would resolve the problem , no the statement was "bump the thread until it clears the page it is on" Are we clear on this ? Good .

Now , I fixed the thread about where cars are built by doing exactly that , go look , it will be obvious .

As for the Swag thread , it was so far out of whack that the reply window would not show up . Have never witnessed that before , but it was also fixed .

Are we clear on this ? Please try reading , thanks .

Man......... the server is going to need shocks if you guys keep up with all the bumpty bumps...

If you want to keep a thread alive, you can post to it. You dont need to say <bump> but you can. Or say for instance if you asked a question and no one answered, you could say "Bueller?" or if you are bumping an OLD thread you are "Resurrecting" the thread..... (Don't worry Dusty, that wasn't religious).

All this reminded me of a Red Hot Chili Peppers song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=OM9uMJWtNww/

Ok I’m willing to show my ignorance  here as I have not figured out how to deal with the threads that are to small to read and must be scrolled if one wished to read. Maybe I should also not admit this also but I do not understand how to “bump” the keyboard as the fix. So am willing to wear the DUNCE hat a bit to get this cleared up for me.
If anyone wants to save face for me feel free to PM or just let her rip right here.

So is the confusion over what a "bump" is , or why doing multiple bumps to move a thread on to the next page will return it to normal size ? Not exactly sure what the mystery is here <scratches head>

I personally don’t feel the solution was spelled out clearly (the what and the why) until this reply.
