Hi ,i did ask the question across the Pond. How would your Guzzi look like [Motor, Size, Style, etc] if you could/ would design /built one.
Was thinking with the new Line up for 2021 ,.... californa being dropped ,.... for me .currently California 1400 , old styling, two seperate seats and 1200 cc with 90 HP would do it . not quite as heavy as the current Cali.
Or a Bike like the LM 850 !

I really like my Bobber Sport so hard to improve on it......but as long as I am dreaming..... Bobber Sport styled like an Eldorado with a 4+ gallon red tank and chrome sides, Powered by the V85 and of course lighter. :thumb:
-
Modern version of the (original) Falcone - 500 cc maybe a bit more, horizontal cylinder, USD forks, rear shocks under the engine.

I would have said MGS 01 with the Griso motor once upon a time, but my ass is still recovering from the burns I received for daring to mention it.
Now my dream Guzzi’s are this..

My first thoughts would be a cafe racer style with lots of polished aluminium. But with a bit more thought I realized it would be a nice to own bike, but it would have to be a second bike.
So when I really put some thought into it I came to the conclusion that my dream bike would be what some may find uninspiring. My original thoughts were to mainly stimulate the visual scene. What I would really want is a bike that will handle sealed roads of various conditions, be reasonably competent in corners, has the ability to be loaded up for touring or stripped down for a trip around town.
Basically I am after something with the attributes of a 2000 California but with less weight. I would like a nice high gloss paint job, a pleasant exhaust note and comfort for a full days ride.
In short I think a cross between a V9, an Eldorado and a California would suit me perfectly.

Just one 'dream' Guzzi, really?
Impossible!
Having said that, I have my Guzzi almost exactly how I want it.
'Evolved' over the five years (next month) that I've had it, just a few more little mods to do and it'll be perfect, for me.
(https://i.ibb.co/Trc9LpF/OLYMPUS-DIGITAL-CAMERA.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Trc9LpF)
I'd still like a Le Mans style Guzzi, with the 8V 1200 Drivetrain, and a Morgan style 'Reverse' Trike, again with the 1200 Powerplant.
Both projects for my retirement.
-
A Guzzi engine in a Honda Dream and you have it!
-
If I could build it, I would certainly give it a shot though it would probably be easier to just buy one and de-tune it for the street.

Over the past four decades I've modified my 850T to be just about perfect for me. I love the way it looks, which is dead-simple standard motorcycle of its era. To improve it I'd want a couple inches more suspension travel and about 50 lb less weight (it weighs 480 lb dry now). I think that would be doable on a V7iii platform. I'd use 80/20 pavement/dirt tires so as to feel more comfortable on gravel parking lots, dirt shoulders and turn-offs, and short stretches of forest service road.

You wouldn't need to de tune it for the street, its not that radical. 104 HP/L not really any more than a Daytona RS at 103 HP/L.

Someone I've met bought one, got it licensed and rode it... That's commitment.

The MGS01 is gorgeous and sexy. A street legal version would be fantastic. However, being a realist, the expense, maintenance demands, load on wrists and knees, and I'm too slow and clumsy to make it look good - like a bear on a tricycle...
This parts bin special - V7 racer with fairing, good forks and shocks and the V85 engine. A street legal version of this without the silly number plates... (V7 racer riding position is not very aggressive)

I'll take one in white:
They could do a sport touring version with slightly larger fairing, dual seat, rack mounts and the V9 engine.
or maybe I'm living in the past... :afro:

Yep I don't mind that style myself although I'm steering away from Cafe bikes these days. Love the look but not the clip ons.

I love this mock up that someone did of a Bellagio with a modern Le Mans make over. The Bellagio no longer meets euro emissions standards but would be great with the current 850 motor.
That's one of the Oberdan Bezzi things that Roper hates, haha. Bezzi did also do a version of this based around the V7 or 850 motor by the way - googling 'oberdan bezzi guzzi' or something should bring it up.
I'd have loved the Bellagio to become a platform for this kind of thing for sure. I'd have been a day one new bike buyer, and I never ever buy new. The Bellagio motor is just so sweet and tractable. Edit: plus CARC!

My Bellagio is pretty bloody close. Just a tad heavy. That 'Le Mans' V7 with the new 850 donk and better forks would work pretty nicely too.

Hah, just finished reading that thread last week. I started in 2017 but got distracted lol.
I get the arguments you copped - there's too much lightspeed sci fi stuff around that can live up to the looks, etc, etc. Count me in your camp though. I just don't care, I'd buy an MGS-0x with *any* motor on Day 1 as long as riding it felt good. Or if it didn't. You can work on that.
Someone is doing that, basically! Get on it Huzo!https://www.guareschimoto.it/ (https://www.guareschimoto.it/)
Guareschi's stuff is niiiice. I'd have the full kit on the way already if it didn't have the exact same problem that an MGS Corsa does; you just cannot register one for the road here period, or so everyone says.

Picking them up is no fun, that's for sure. Yours looks great. Why the factory didn't offer variants like this is up there with the great Guzzi mysteries.

I suppose the reality is everyone's "DREAM GUZZI" is really the one currently sitting in one's garage!!

Guess ,true enough, ...whatever one has sitting in Garage, but with so many changes all the time ,perhaps to many Models,.... shrink it down to 4 or 5 Models [this actually applies to any Manufacturer] .
Interessting for me to see that most of you like the 850 to 1000cc [1200] Range and 'Sporty'.
Overseas [Europe] seem to think the same way.

Nope, it's 125.25 HP (93.4 KW) @ 8000RPM
And it has the better transmission and shorter wheelbase compared to the Daytona RS, which also makes this a better bike than any Carc version.

You've misread my post and my figures are directly from the owners manual. Read my post again 104 Horsepower per litre
Almost exactly the same as a Daytona RS at 103 Horsepower per Litre and the question I was answering was with regards to needing de-tuning for the road, nothing else.

Maybe I'm missing something, but these are the figures from my 97 Daytona RS owners manual:

Okay I'll put a different spin on this topic. Develop a fixed fairing (Norge/Road Glide) for the 1400 Touring. Personally I like the 1400's, I own a 2014 Touring. I also have a 1997 Cal 1100 with carbs. My two cents.
-
Since what attracted me to Moto Guzzi was my first motorcycle, the Yamaha XS750, my dream Guzzi would be a V7III with every accessory available for the XS750 including frame mounted fairing so I could convert from my current "cafe", to a full on touring when the mood strikes.
(https://i.ibb.co/PQKXjCH/Yamaha-XS-750-77.jpg) (https://ibb.co/PQKXjCH)
(https://i.ibb.co/tz7bGz3/Yamaha-XS-750-77-1.jpg) (https://ibb.co/tz7bGz3)
To be able to go from sporty to full touring with one motorcycle would be awesome!

Well unless you want to get incredibly pedantic about it and the variant "claimed" figures from different sources and versions of manuals etc. I'll use your Daytona figures and references.
75 KW = 100.557 HP
Therefore
Datona RS 101.36 HP/L
MGS-01.....104.48 HP/L
So as I said in my original response both engines are tuned to as near as damn it, the same "state of tune" The MGS Makes its power and torque gains primarily from its extra capacity and its NON road compliant exhaust system not because it's in a higher state of tune. Therefore it would make a decent road engine without requiring de tuning.

Some of the road going European examples are up to what, 3000 kms or so at this point, just going by the ones which have been advertised for sale recently.
I got your point, 102 HP divided by 1 litre times 1.225 litres is pretty close.
As Pete has fulminated at some length though, regardless of tune, the motor doesn't exactly seem very low-maintenance. TLM currently has most of the required parts on clearance sale and I'm considering building one but I do not think it is a good idea as such.
It's just a *sexy* idea.
Edits: man, I can't drive a forum tonight. NLM is Morini stuff, lol
More edits: good *grief*, how do I keep hitting 'quote' instead of 'modify'?! sorry

"As Pete has fulminated at some length though, regardless of tune, the motor doesn't exactly seem very low-maintenance."
That is the impression that I got from reading various accounts of the bike, not an enjoyable street bike. Unless you lived in a relatively remote area with great roads, few if any traffic lights, stop signs and dense traffic. And then you'd end up racking up miles and within a very short time span the engine would need to be rebuilt.

I've recently fully rebuilt a Daytona/Centeuro engine from the ground up and have a future project in the pipeline for an engine with 95mm bore. I'm not really a "take it to the max" type of guy and the reasons for using 95mm I can go into at some later point. I can say that Even the Daytona engine isn't what I'd term a robust design with lifter and valve guide wear an issue. There is a fix for the guide wear and somewhat the lifters.
We all know about the cam gears and pump which has 2 options that work with the gold standard fix the Caruso gears and pump.
The MGS engine has a few upgrades over the Daytona engine as in Jackshaft delete and the cam gear now supported by ball bearings, oil squirters for the pistons and 1 out of the 3 bearings supporting the cam in each head is now a needle bearing. The rear bearing assembly is now sealed by an o ring and the breathing system and oil feed to the heads are different and there is no thermostat to the oil cooler which is bad for road use.
Building another engine esp modified to MGS specs isn't really a viable thing to do cost wise and the 1200 8 valve is a better engine but I just like an engineering project and the look of the engine.

Not sure, Paul Minnaerts engine has a few miles on it now I believe and its basically a MGS-01 engine without the enhancements like needle bearing cams, and jackshaft ball bearings and piston squirters which wont hurt the longevity. The head component upgrades are the most critical to getting some decent road miles out of the engine. The V11 derived chain drive for the jackshaft and oil pump are pretty reliable so all in all as a Sunday ride bike you should expect some decent mileage out of it. racing is another thing though.
