As motorcycle riders in Pennsylvania, we’ve to deal with drunk drivers, distracted drivers, and bad drivers. Soon, we can add to that “stoned” drivers! I don’t have the opportunity that much to ride at night but last night I did. I felt very vulnerable to drivers waiting to make a left turn ahead and possibly not seeing me. I survived.
I love my 1200 Sport and my only complaint, and it’s a big one, is the poor headlight pattern. Almost useless! When I raise it up to make the road visible with the low beam, the highbeam shows me the leaves on the trees. I need some type of auxiliary lighting to help me to illuminate the road ahead at night and be seen at night by oncoming drivers. I do not want to mount engine guards on my bike so placement could be tricky. I would like the auxiliary lighting to be on with both highbeam and low beam. Any recommendations as to brand and placement on the 1200 sport?

For my improved visibility Of 5he road ahead and visibility to oncoming traffic, is it best to mount the aux. light high or low (away from the headlight?

I like then located below the headlight so they can be aimed out down towards the road ahead of me. I do not like the driving lights that are mounted to the fork lowers and are about 12 inches off the ground. I don't think you get the same light spread ahead of you. Think holding a flashlight above you head and aiming it out in front of you vs laying it flat on the ground.
Also wider gives the illusion of being bigger or more noticeable. Most of the light bars I have on my bikes have the lights around 16 to 20 inches apart or you can go even wider If you put them on the crash bars.

To be conspicuous I like to have my auxiliary lights separated as far as I can from the main headlight. So I tend to make sure not to mount them in line with the headlights.

Guzzi made driving lights for the Norge...I have those mounted, and they are super bright, down low on the forks, and provide great illumination at night...especially for those pesky deer.
Also good for letting drivers know you are THERE!
They are much more expensive though than the ones you can find on line, but at the time there were not many cheap options.
If you want high quality, Clearwater lights are also a great option...but very expensive.

There may be more elegant solutions, but this adorns a mate's 1200 Sport. He's happy with this overkill.

Single units do work but the only point straight ahead. With dual pods you can aim each on slightly to the outside of the bike to cast more light to the sides to liht up the sides of the road while while keeping the road floded with light.

I don't know about you guys but I have seen on some adventure bikes/BMW a hi-visiblity green spotlight that is absolutely blinding. I mean if you don't notice these spots you are blind! Obviously, for night time usage you would have to angle them down and possibly for daytime use also. I have not been able to determine who they are available from. Since I could not find them I went with LED spots from Amazon and they work quite well. The more you are visible the better. Not the best picture but you can get the idea.

First the stock headlight on my Breva 1100 IMHO is crap and no matter what you do the spread of the beam will get no better. My solution was to replace the stock headlight with a Lucas replica head shell and a LED headlight. I also mounted Denali S4's to my crash bars. I did the aux-lights first but in the end hardly use them after installing the new headlight. If you desire any more photos of specific area just let me know.

I prefer dual pods myself. On the V7s I mount Denali D2's, sourced before the rash of cheap became available. There's not a lot of room between the upper fork tube and the headlight frame, so I made up some brackets that work well. Lower positioning would likely be preferable, but I found it somewhat awkward to do.

The 1200 Sport is a bigger bike - you can afford to go bigger than 2 inches without overwhelming the aesthetics. I have come across someone, possibly on here, who fabricated a light bar affixed to the underside of the lower fork clamp/triple tree.
