Title: Alternative 5 ohm coils?
Post by: kfz on August 30, 2020, 03:14:12 PM
Looking at the prospect of replacing another Dyna III ignition and coils. Becoming an expensive past time.

Working on the assumption that there is no real alternative to the Dyna Ignition i need to fit 5 ohms coils. Is there any alternative than the Dyna Coils?

I run cheap 10 euro alieexpress coils on all my bikes.
No need to ride around with 30 year old suspect coils if new ones are that cheap.
I run them on four bikes, combined around 60.000 miles.
No problems so far.

Would a ballast resistor keep them from cooking?

I do on t'other bike. But the Mille has stok coils.  When fitted the resistors no spark and engine wouldnt run.  I think the coils or the (now blown) ignition was too weak.

I guess I could fit a new Dyna and see how it goes with the new resistors. If its weak again I need new coils.
