I've searchered, including Guzziology, and can't find a good tutorial on adjusting the clutch on my 98 ev11. I've seen some threads about loop frame and v7 clutch adjustments and maybe mines the same, but I'm not sure.
Seems like I have slack at the pivot arm and at the clutch lever but the clutch lever has got to be near all the way out before it engages. This doesn't seem right to me. Any help would be appreciated.

There is an adjustment on the actuating arm. You might be running out of throw before the arm bottoms out. You can adjust that by lostening the lock nut and turning the adjuster in a little. Then you need to go back and adjust the cable. Take most of the slack out first at the bottom, and finish at the top with the lever.
I don't know for certain that will resolve your trouble, but it might.

Just re read your post. The adjustment I described might be too far in. Backing it off would let the pressure plate engage sooner.

Repeat that please....
Are you saying that there is a LOT of slack in the cable. But you have to FULLY release the lever to get the clutch to engage?
-
not a lot of slack, but some. And yes, the clutch lever is nearly completely released before the bike starts to move.

I think the spec is around 2 mm of freeplay or slack for the lever.

that's about what I got at the lever.
