Title: Rode my first Guzzi today
Post by: Scout63 on September 10, 2020, 10:57:04 PM: I finished a light refresh on my new to me ‘80 V50ii today. Rebuilt the carbs, new tires and tubes, new braided brake lines, rebuilt calipers, new battery, valves adjusted, oil pan checked, much cleaning:

It started right up and sounds just amazing. I rode it about five miles around town this evening. Needs some minor sorting of clutch adjustment and throttle stops. Power isn’t great but the sound and feel are addictive. Much more satisfying than my airheads, and more civilized than the Norton but still very distinctive and much better put together. What great bikes.

Nice looking bike! I always like the little :smiley: small block Guzzi's...they are so underrated... :thumb: :cool:

Post by: Tom on September 11, 2020, 06:25:54 PM: It won't hurt the engine if you keep the rev's high. Shift at 6K. Cruise at 5K. You'll like the difference.

There is no known cure for this, other than either keep riding the Guzzi you have, trading up to another one, or just buying another one because you can't bring yourself to sell the first one. (That's me :grin:)

(My ex wives would be mad because I could remember when I bought my first Guzz but I couldn't remember their birthday or our anniversary.) May you also have a long affair with Guzzi and the multitude of wonderful owners.

I yearn for a modern smaller displacement Guzzi.
A modern V50 should still be able to have the same power as contemporary V7s (just look at what they get out of the V85TT's engine!) while weighing less.
I guess that would result in a very enjoyable small(ish) & potentially agile bike.
