Title: V50III points advance weights
Post by: Harley PHD on September 14, 2020, 11:11:31 AM
Is this stock or has someone modified the advance weights with epoxy to modify the advance curve?
I bought this motor off E-bay to replace the one in my V50II (factory electronic ignition).  This motor is a later model with a dyna-S in place of the stock points.
Thanks in advance, I'm not used to these engines.

These are probably stock. I don't remember on which bike, but I have definitely seen this black/brown mess on stock distributor weights.

Besides, in the literature I've read about messing with an advance curve, they play with the springs, not the weights.

Thanks, when I look closer the edge looks molded, like a factory job not just some JB weld slapped on.  I guess it keeps the advance from making noise when it retards.

Just a heads up. The old small block advance mechanism has a tendency to stick over time. They need a regimen of cleaning and lubing now and then. It's no big deal, but something to be aware of.
