Tuesday was more than likely the last time I stay in a tent
-
Your post reminded me I should start doing yoga before I start to hate tents myself.
-
Pretty much knocked off tent camping at age 70.

Yep. Soon to be 68 so I’m ahead of the game I guess. Worst part was, it was 52 that night and had to crawl out to water the grass 3 times.

THIS ^^^ Sleeping in the tent is no problem; it's getting in and out and in and out...

Exactly

<sigh>
That's why you carry a bottle in the tent

Yes, but a bottle of tequila is only a temporary solution

Yes, that's the MAIN issue!!   ...and although totally practical, I am not sure I want the dreaded "urine bottle" next to me!!!
When on a long motorcycle trip...and at our age...there is no price on COMFORT!!  :thumb:

I Don’t like waking up in the wee hours anywhere, but if it is not raining I enjoy looking at the night sky as I take care of business. Although it is hard to do at a rally I try not to get too hydrated before turning in,that way I limit my trips.

Scenic :undecided:

Not many places I'd rather be! 74 years old and crawling in and out is more of a chore but it keeps me moving. Love the sound of the night rain on the fly while wrapped up cozy and dry inside. Warm nights with only the screen between me and outside is a great change from the monotony of four walls sealing out the environment. Don't mind an occasional day hunkered down during a storm. I have enough Kindle books to keep the down time interesting. Wide mouth bottle with a good cap is a must.

Same here brother , nothing better than rain falling on a tent . Until a few years ago my gear consisted of a Mexican blanket and a tarp .

This. I never sleep better than when in a tent. Don't really know why, but I've always loved it. When I was a pup, I started sleeping on the screen porch at home. Slept in a glider from April to October. There is just something about it.

My old French foreign legion tent. I air it out once a year imagining I’ll use it again but at 66 I don’t know. Ah the memories.

As soon as Hugo described his technique I thought he must be a yogi or was looking for a serious cramp, wouldn’t work for me.

63 years young and still a tent guy. Once in a while il splurge for a cabin at Two Wheels of Suches when there, but i prefer the tent when im motorcycle camping. At my age I gotta keep moving, bending, slithering, whatever and stay limbered up. or rigor mortis will set in! I just committed to going to my cabin in the cohutta wildlife management area, for two or three days per week and hiking out of the cabin in the woods for exercise. Gotta try and stay as limber as possible. Big commitment but I have to do it for my health! Picture for my motivation reminder. lol

Aug 2011. Theodore Roosevelt National Park, west of Bismarck. We’d just pitched our tents. One of the Park Rangers stopped by to chat. His parting words “ .............. if you guys hear anything moving outside your tents in the middle of the night, don’t worry. It’s only buffalo or wild horses.”
Put me at ease!

The rain has another benefit. It drowns out the snoring....

An across service survival brief was held recently.
In it, various servicemen were asked the same question...what would you do if you found a scorpion in your tent.
The sailor said, I'd run away and get help.
The private said, I'd stamp on it.
The marine said, I'd kill it and eat it.
The airman said, I'd ring reception and find out why there was a tent in my room :thumb:
I was in the Air Force; our favour saying to any army we saw was, we don't dig in, we check in.

I’m a 1952 model & still enjoy tenting . W/many orthopedic issues i rely on my Go-Kot w/a therm-a-rest on top for a good nights sleep . I’ve been accused of scarring bears snoring , don’t bother me ! As for the other issue , i try to keep fluid intake down & usually only 2-3 trips outside for star gazing . My brolly is always close at hand if rain threatens. I to fear an unexpected jug failure .
-
I thought I'd mastered the fine art of peeing out of my hammock until one morning I discovered I'd pissed in my boot. :embarrassed:
My pee jar is an old naglene 1L water bottle that I stenciled a big P on the side. Properly labled and absolutely watertight.

Those Go-Kots look pretty comfy! I might have to check those out....

What does a guzzi rider smell like after 24 hrs in the saddle?
Depends......!
-
Those urine bottles are so warm and comforting when it gets in the low 50ºs.
I'm not a tent guy anymore either...

LOL, the piss bottle conundrum...... We had to ban them while deployed. One kid had 45 full 1 liter piss bottles in his CHU on one of the FOBS in Iraq. He was on a 1 week rotation, one week in sector, one week back on the FOB. Too lazy to walk to the latrine, so just kept stacking them up. All was good until one week, the power was out, the AC dead, and the little converted cargo container baked in the Sun. Not sure how many burst, but it was nasty......... Then there was the time a crew kept tossing the full bottles in the back of their patrol vehicles. Was all fun and games until they hit an IED.....
I have to say though that a burst piss bottle was preferable to burning poo and JP8 (diesel fuel) in cut down steel drums. Glad those days are mostly over.
Nothing better than camping and sleeping under the stars, though I prefer the Hammock and Tarp if I can find the right place to set up.
-
C'mon now...you know you all want one to keep in your saddlebag!!!!

Thanks a lot you guys, was gonna comment now I have to go pee!!!!
-
Ah yes, those wonderful piss bottles. Do not spill one in subfreezing weather so that it floods your tent, soaks into your sleeping bags, and freezes. Do not do this thing. It can only lead to tears.

Never accept a morning coffee from my mate Bunny (made with water from his saucepan) until you are absolutely sure he's already had one.
Bloody MZ riders!

I'm a mere 74, still lots of camping to do yet, this is my preferred set-up, as just last weekend.

photo sharing service (https://imgbb.com/)
Float on a cloud, stand up to change, sit to get the boots off & on, if a pee on a tree is needed in the night, well, the fire needs stoking too. Up with the birds before dawn, watch the day begin over a good coffee. Life doesn't get much better.
-
This was one of my more luxurious campsites.

Danger..! Will Robinson...Danger..!
Am I showing my age by admitting that when I saw the title of the thread, I heard it in Jonathan Harris' voice? "Oh, I'm not English, I'm just affected!"
I'm a Civil War reenactor, so I sleep in a tent regularly. A canvas A-tent is (IMHO) more comfortable than a modern tent because it is taller and easier to get in and out of. And it's no less waterproof, even without treatment (Don't touch the inside when it's raining!!!) It is, however, heavier and harder to pack unless you have a mule train.
-
And each time you moved camp, you'd have to chop down some trees for the ridge poles & uprights. These some these days who'd look askance at that, even if you could find suitable saplings. You'd also have to dig a trench all around, to keep the water from flooding through. No such thing as lightweight camping back then, you came prepared.

Thanks for that, Dave.. it gave me a grin for the afternoon.
