I sat on one yesterday when I took my V7 in for service. My wife told me I should take a test ride but I knew what the result would be, so I declined.

What in the living, breathing, power of piss are you saying...!
You remind me of the teenager who was standing knocked kneed outside a house of ill repute with his crumpled handful of sweaty notes in one hand and God knows what in the other.. :embarrassed:, staring nervously into the doorway past the flashing “OPEN” sign..
He knows he will have fun, but “wonders if he should..” :violent1:
Mate..
Your WIFE...! suggested you take a test ride on a new bike and you piked out...!
How many guys would give their left one for an offer like that ? Buy the ‘85 and give the V7 to your dear wife.
An Englishman would say...
“This Sir, simply will not do..
You must at your earliest convenience, adjourn to aforesaid place of motorcycle sales and take a test ride then purchase said motorbicycle, if not solely in an effort to satisfy your own selfish desires, at least to fulfill the request of your wonderful wife...!”
Or..
You could do what I did..
Pay a deposit immediately, wait 7 months then test ride it after purchase.
An Aussie would say..
“Mate...There’s nothing to test..
Just buy the bastard and piss off on a ride.... “:clock: :bike-037:

LOL well I only have room for two bikes, so I would need to sell one. I don't currently plan on selling my V7, so it would need to replace my DR650.

Bloody hell mate, listen to me...!
It’s a six step process.
#1 Remove the handlebars and chuck the DR under the house.
#2 Phone the dealer and transfer the funds.
#3 Hastily construct a pedestal for your darling wife and place her upon it...(which she so richly deserves...)
#4 Fabricate a modicum of common sense and decency and while your V85 is being prepared, treat your dear lady to a wonderful lunch.
#5 After an hour spent with her...”relaxing”, break out your abacus, count your lucky stars and go pick up the bike.
# 6 PM me and pass on the incalculably important and bleedingly obvious information that I am a positive influence, then remind me how smart I am...!
Sound like a plan...? :clock: :clock:   :bike-037:

I'm not test riding one either. Between the Van Van and Himalayan I have my back road / off road riding covered.
Now if I were to do multi-day adventure touring again the V85TT would be at the top of the list.

Great thread here! Elevated in stature by Huzo of course!
I think George Carlin would have had a field day with this one.

I was running the route I created yesterday, and as I went by the station the V85TT was back. I pulled up and he jokingly accused me of stalking him. Of course it would be the bike I was stalking. LOL!

you wont believe this, but I went for a short 2-hr ride on the parkway last week, and I saw THREE v85's and two V7's in that time!! Two v85 riding with a third person on some other midsize Adv... 20min later, a V85 with a V7, and then wizzed past a v7 parked on an overlook with a couple triumphs! I was gobsmacked . Of course I was riding the '1100 Sport Breva' so i was cruising like a missile and didnt stop to chat
All this between Asheville NC and Mt.Mitchell (35mi?)

Ah yes, those test rides. I stopped by the dealer here, meaning only to take a look at a V85. That's all I was going tio do, honest! As I was standing there, pretending disinterest, a salesman walked up and asked, "Do you want to take a test ride"? My immediate thought was, "You bastard!"
Rode home on a new motorcycle...

I am truly amazed that the dealer didn't invite me to ride the bike while I was there sitting on it for probably 30 minutes a year ago. I guess the fact that I don't hesitate to ask for a test ride on bikes I am truly considering buying kept the salesman from talking me into riding it. I had recently added the Himalayan and Van Van to the stable so I wasn't really interested although a test ride might have tilted me over the edge.
Because of travel restrictions at work until next year I won't have overtime and per diem money accumulating in my motorcycle account so new change in bikes for me for a while unless I am willing to part with what I currently own.

Thanks Huzo now I am looking for the closest dealer with a V85. I told the wife the Bobber Sport was my keeper road bike and there would not be another...... :thewife: Until you laid out a very reasonable and rational step by step plan to get another. :thumb:

Yeah..
I said that once in a previous life.
I said..
“That was the last time...It meant nothing...”
She said..
“You’re right, it WAS the last time and it means almost nothing...
But it’ll cost you a house..!”
$$$$ :embarrassed:

This thread took on a life of its own. LOL! Awesome posts Huzo!

Yes mate..
It really is a most worthwhile thing to do.
BTW.
Do you mean another bike or another wife ?

Not one to let a viral thread die, here is my update.
Thanks to Huzo and his gentle persuasion (SARCASM), I went ahead and bought a V85TT. I purchased the red and white version. The sales guy was pushing the travel, but I just wasn't fond of the color.
While removing the handlebars and chucking the DR under the house is a viable option, I've decided to sell it.

You are no longer allowed to ride with me! LOL! Congratulations!
Which Moto Guzzi you bringing this weekend?
Looking forward to seeing it in action, and the test of my will power.

I'm bringing the V85TT. The V7 is still in the shop for the rear drive leak.

Where will you live if you sell the house ?
I would have thought on it a bit longer.. :undecided:

Three bikes and a tarp will make a nice shelter down by the river.
Actually, guys have been know to rent an air conditioned space in a storage building and build a bed loft above their toys.

Hi,
You've left it a little late in the seasoon for selling... But I guess it's still warm in AL..
Just wanted to pass on some info on selling a DR-- DO NOT list it at your bargain basement price. Used DS bikes are selling like hotcakes right now and people are paying premium.
I bought a 2014 DR650 in october for $3800 and rode it only a bit- decided to sell it about a month and a half ago. The bike was very well farkled and great condition, so I decided to be a bit cheeky and list it at $4200. I not only had my inbox BLOWN UP with response, once I had taken a deposit on the bike, I had not less than 3 people contact me offering to pay over asking (as high as $5k) if I would break the deal and sell it to them instead!
So I am sure you want to get the DR gone with your new V85 in the garage, but I would urge you to list it at your highest 'pie in the sky' price at first... If you arent able to sell it within a few days, you could drop it down to your more idealized price.
I only listed the bike in the Flea Market section over at ADVrider.com, and there was tons of traffic without any craigslist BS.
Hope that's helpful-- great looking v85, sure you'll love it!

We are.just getting into good riding weather in the Tennessee Valley area. We will still get some hot days, but the 90s should be behind us.

I don’t think I’ll have any issues selling it. Worst case, I’ll have to hold it until spring. The guys on the DR riders forum seem to be willing to drive great distances to pickup DRs, so I’ll probably try to sell it there first. If I had enough room, I would keep it.
