Ya'll see this?

A 43 year old Norton Commando Interstate going to auction, still packed in original crate!

What do you think she goes for? Should the buyer unpack it and ride it or display it in the crate?

From memory, this bike along with a few others were uncovered in Belgium about 5?years ago.  No one is going to remove the bike from the crate because it will be worth the price of a used 77 Commando, and of course that would be a significant loss.

A bizarre sight to see, and I'm sure there may be an interesting story to go with it, I know of several snowmobiles from the 60's still in their crates, and a few bikes. (Same owner)
These things make good idols for some, I guess, but how do you quantify the lost riding experiences as you stare at your caged snortin' Norton ?!
...the snowmobiles don't bother me as much :boozing:

A friend of mine has a zero mileage Commando Roadster still in the packing crate. He's owned it for close to 30 years and I did hear he was considering unpacking it and using it. But I've heard that before!

Funny Les, I can see a Norton club cartoon

"I was going to suggest cutting some holes so people could push peanuts through, poor old motorcycle."

I realize that we all know what a Norton looks like however, for your viewing pleasure...  Out of the crate.  I restored this one a couple of years ago, '73 850 Mk I.

It's been sitting for 40 plus yeas, its likely to need a complete strip before you consider running it I doubt the packing a shipping process from the factory would be that good for it to be pristine over that period of time. It's doomed as some people put it and it was doomed probablly about 20-25 years ago.

Whether it was sports cars or motorcycles, no one ever topped the Brits!  Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

I restored this 72 750 Combat last year. As good as Commandos look, the riding experience is so much more fulfilling.

I can’t imagine keeping any bike in the crate - at least assemble and detail and put it somewhere to look at.  I’d rather have an audio loop of the bike at 5000 rpm than a crate in the corner.

If someone buys this thing and keeps it crated up as an investment in the hope it's future resale value will be greater its a sad indication of where our value system is today.
