Not V7 content, but is air cooled.
Started the cooling system conversion on the 912, am mounting a 917 style center mounted cooling fan and shroud. Also installed a high torque starter, and new full flow oil cooler with thermostatically controlled fan. Before this, I had the stock oil cooler and cooling fan/shroud with a small external cooler. This will make it completely unique. I also have a custom header and exhaust system with an O2 sensor hooked up to an AFM.
The stock motor was a bit over 1900cc's (85hp) and had Bosch FI. Because the car sat abandoned in the woods for 10 years before I got it, the entire engine compartment was a rats nest, and they ate through everything and made saving the FI system impossible, so as part of the rebuild, I had the heads rebuilt, port/polish/optimized, upped displacement to 2200CC with new cast Iron Cyls, Keith black Hypertuatech pistons, and Dellorto DRLA carbs. Engine was dyno'd at 165 crank and 135 at the wheels (if I remember correctly)
Here is how it sits, doing some test fit for the main shroud. The fan will be center mounted and blow down over the cyls. Have to do some serious work to mock up, drill holes for the spark plug and sensor wires, and engine surround tins, then send out for powder coating.

The engine sans all of the cooling shrouds coolers and engine surround tins.

This is what the engine bay looked like for the last 5 years.

Nice project ! Will the new ( horizontal ) cooling fan be belt driven ?
The thread title immediately reminded me of my Yamaha XJ900 S.

That looks like the Type IV engine in my '79 bus. Of course Porsche had special heads, compared to mine.
What year of 912 is it?

It is a 1976, a one year only model that took a modified 914 motor (which was a modified type IV) and installed in a base 911 chassis.

Speaking of 917 cooling fans....... who knew they made a 16 cylinder?

Here's the "conventional version".

I once drove a friends '67 912. Very neat car. Actually the guy had two and offered to sell me one for about $5k which was a great driver quality. His keeper was immaculately restored. Instead I kept my old '94 Camaro Z/28 daily driver which I dearly loved.

Yes, I think the pulley/belt system is similar to the Corvair in how it routes the power to the fan.
Here are some mockups.
