Title: Finally the bikes are ridden
Post by: Joliet Jim on November 07, 2020, 08:03:14 AM
For anybody following the story, last Feb we lost our house due to a busted valve in the upstairs water line while we were out. 26000 gallons of water in a day destroyed most of the house and the bikes went to a storage locker the day before that part of the garage ceiling collapsed. Fast forward to November and great weather and I finally get the bikes out to clean and ride. First both batteries needed to be recharged overnight so the delay to yesterday. Yesterday bring the Centauro home to wash and take off the HB racks. I gave the bike a good wash and went in the house for a minute. I come back around the corner and wonder what the steam is coming off the front of the bike. As I got closer I realized not steam but smoke and then I see the flame at the front of the gas tank. Evidently the wash shorted out a live wire and it caught fire. Being a blow hard I did the logical thing. I blew it out like a giant birthday cake and then pulled the now dead battery.  Luckily it was the wiring to the aux lights I had put on years ago and not the oem wiring harness. That would have been bad. I managed to strip off the lights and wires, recharged the battery and she started up and rode fine back to the locker to get the Stone. Today I'll be out on that one. Part of me thinks the Centauro knew I was talking about the new Trident and decided to teach me a "see you really do love me lesson". Ahh life is good.

Omg, didn't someone write a song about that, I think it might have been Prine; " if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"

You were very lucky that it shorted out while it was parked and not at speed out on the highway, that could've been ugly.

Enjoy the ride, it's been well earned and overdue.  :thumb:

I agree with Dave, the sooner 2020 is a done deal and in the record books the better, lol .

   Ride safe take care

   Kelly
