Title: Helmets from Motogear
Post by: dxhall on November 15, 2020, 05:34:55 PM
A European store named Motogear is offering Schuberth C4 Pro helmets for $500, with free shipping to the US.  Anyone dealt with them?  The best price I’ve found at a US seller is about $650, including tax.  Here’s the link:

My only word of caution, which might not apply to you, is the DOT sticker. I found a similar great deal on a foreign-sourced AVG K6. It MIGHT be POSSIBLE that a small eBay DOT sticker was all I needed to complete the package...

Same here. I bought a Nolan helmet, and I think one other, from a Euro site, for a cheaper price, but without a DOT sticker.Thankfully I live in NH, which doesn’t require a helmet to ride.

I never thought about this, but I guess it makes sense that a helmet sold in Europe wouldn’t have a DOT sticker.  Does that mean it doesn’t meet DOT requirements, or only that it lacks the sticker?   It wouldn’t make much economic sense for the manufacturer to make one helmet for the US, and one for everywhere else.

It meets the standards. The lack of a sticker is for our market is cosmetic. It has the European standard sticker, which I forget the acronym. Just get a DOT sticker from eBay, throw it on there, and don’t worry about it.

All the times I've been pulled over, (and there have been a few) I've never had a cop look for a sticker on a helmet. What's the issue here? Just asking.

LEOs are only interested in checking the little novelty helmets some people wear.

The Schuberth C3-Pro that I bought from an online retailer in Italy didn’t come with a DOT sticker and I’ve never had a problem. The helmet was about 50% of the cost of the identical helmet in the U.S. I’m all for supporting local business but not when it costs me money. You can get incredible deals on Sidi boots overseas too.

I purchased my new Shoei from Champion Helmet in Germany (or Holland) last year.  I saved about 30%.  It has an ECE cert but no DOT.    My local dealer had a Schubert last year for about the same price you have but I was more familiar with the Shoei and got it for about the same price.

I got quick delivery and everything promised.  If the ECE label bother's you, move on.  Otherwise it's a no-brainer.  ($$ emoji)

I just purchased a new camera from S Korea (Ebay).  No warranty but hey, it's out production and no longer available new.   So getting it for half price, so what?  The charger has a universal plug vs the US version.  Otherwise I saved some money for what I wanted.

I've never seen a cop ever check for a DOT sticker.  But knock wood.  I'm a smart ass and could still get my ass kicked and locked up.

Me?  Buy it, no brainer.

If a C3 will do, Chromeburner has them for $377 shipped.  I've never ordered from them but wouldn't hesitate to, based on what I've read from US customers.
