A sad day in the little country town of Hamlin West Virginia, hometown of Chuck Yeager. A true hero to all of us West Virginians. I find myself sitting here staring at the title of this post ................... ........

Breaking the sound barrier was no small accomplishment, but going more than 2x the speed of sound just 5 months later must have been really something. All that and more was done after notable WWII service. He really did it.

Some say he could be an ass and he didn't keep opinions to himself but I don't think anyone has doubted his flying skills and analytical skills concerning machinery. He and Bob Hoover were probably the best of that era with some others not far behind.

My favorite Chuck Yeager quote: on fighting against a pilot in a 'superior' airplane.
"Its not the crate the other guy is in, its the guy IN the crate you have to worry about."

Yeager's journey back to Allied lines after being shot down in WW2 is a remarkable story..And since Hoover was mentioned, his escape from a German POW is camp is another fanrtastic story.

One of my all time favorite people...I was lucky enough to get a autographed copy of his book

Truly a great man. I was humbled and honored to spend some time with him several times when I was at Walter Reed from 2012-2015. See you on the Fiddlers Green Sir!

I checked my old hometown newspaper for a Chuck Yeager article. This one, written by a local staff writer, provides a personal snapshot as remembered by his Mountain State friends and associates.
