As I mentioned in my intro, I bought the Teal Miami Vice special from Iconic. I'm going to paint & powder coat over the winter. It was originally (per the owner) "ugly turd brown" so he painted it Teal. I'm planning on going with a proper Italian paint job. I was thinking predominantly red with white and green accents and recently been thinking about black with white and red accents.
Any opinions? Here's my attempt at "photoshop"

Welcome to the Funny Farm! With a name like Tiki Joe, you'll fit right in! Because a stylized paint scheme is such a personal touch it's hard to say this or that would look the best. But since you asked  My$.02 would be the second or fifth rendition.

Oh man, the stock black/root beer metallic was beautiful. Anything is better than that teal.
-
If you must do tricolour stripes then #2 but it's really a design that isn't suited to stripes. Leave it a solid colour.
Ciao
-
Best looking Sport I ever saw was bright monochromatic white with a wide black stripe down the top of the tank (a la LMI) and continued over the tail piece.. And it had the 80's 'modern' art deco Guzzi eagle decal on the tank side (large eagle but no text)
Your schemes look pretty cool, I particularly like #1 and #5!

Anyone know where I could find a solo seat? I'd love to find a Daytona or something similar but haven't had any luck finding one.
-
You may have to look in EU for the seat or cowl. I have always wanted a bike in plaid.
-
Well, you did ask for opinions, so here is mine. I’ve always felt that the bike showcased its curvy body work with a single color, preferably dark. It’s hard to improve on the original, as the Sports are one of the best looking bikes with body work, right up there with the 916 Duc.

Agreed.
From the design concepts proposed by the OP, I think the last two in the set are pretty nice if going with the flag color theme, maybe the last one being the best, but I'd make the base color white or dark solid gray, like Ferrari Grigio Scuro
-
Tiki, good to have another Missouri Guzzi rider! As someone else said, this is a personal preference kinda thing. I like the original turd brown myself. it's pretty rare. But it's your machine. Get that sucker fixed up and ride down to the Ozarks in the spring and we'll splat some bugs on that bad boy!

Anything done well will look good !
I would lean towards an OEM color, the dark blue is my favorite
-
Have you seen the stock black one? It had a goldish metal flake giving it a deep root beer color, stunning!

THIS^ Best stock color for the Sport i. I understand when owners want to make their bike one of a kind but OEM paint is *much* better for resale value.
-
If this was originally a blue bike; 100% that's what it would be going back to. The blue looks great and it's my favorite color...my Harley is blue as well. I don't mind the root beer color, but not enough to go back to it. This needs an Italian color scheme in my opinion. I'm still considering just going solid red.
Now....gold wheels or grey?
-
grey wheels with paint. red is fastest

Burnt Orange with a black racing stripe right down the middle .

#2 or oem.

You could do a Mark Etheridge on it. White through the middle then red on one side and green on the other. Italian flag if you're looking at it from behind. Otherwise it looks like a green or red bike. 2 bikes in 1.
-
Injected 1100 Sports were red, yellow or the root beer black. Only carb bikes were blue.
I’d suggest a solid color with stock decals. The red/white/green will be the same to the resale market as the current teal.

I bought a passenger delete fiberglass seat cover from a shop out of Italy, which made them maybe three years ago. I wanted to order another one, but they were not interested in making anymore of them for now. I ended up having that passenger cover fiberglassed right onto the rear fairing. I like the looks of the single seat on the 1100 Sport. And like everything else, converting a two seater into a single seater is not that cheap either. I think that I paid around $200.00 for the insert, and then another $400.00 to have the fiberglass work and painting done. I'm also keeping my eyes open for two more of those covers, one for my red and another for my silver 1100 Sport so I will let you know if I find any.

Teo Lamers used to make a cover that replaced the rear seat.

I like the idea of blue with gold wheels.

Yes that looks great! Let me know if you come across any.

#2 looks all wrong to me in the direction of the stripes. If they were reversed so they pointed down to the rear instead of front it would look like going forward and not going to dig into the ground like a tent stake.

I made this solo seat cowl awhile back from an extra pillion pad I purchased off of eBay, I didn't want to butcher the one I had, so now I have both. Fiberglass work is not to difficult to do, I am sure there are plenty of youtube videos out there.

. I do like the clean lines of the solo rear body work without the line of the removable cowl but it is nice to have access to the battery and tools tray.
-
That dark blue like the recent post above would look good. Good old classic Italian color.
"Fiat Blue Blu Scuro #456"
I'd now go with that and just the slanted flag on the tail only as shown in image #6, even maybe on one side only.

How about a take off one of these?

Stripes should always have a “falling forward” theme. Rearward stripes look “slow”.
Also #2 looks like a ZXR 750 Kawasaki.
Some of the others are noteworthy though..

Not really brown, more like black from 10 feet away.
In certain light, it can look green and/or brown. Has a lot of metallic in it.
I can't say I recall ever seeing a brown Sport. If it's an original color, brown that is, I'm guessing it would pretty rare.

Were the engine & transmission cases painted silver or were they bare aluminum?
-
1100 Sport engine and transmission cases were painted silver/aluminum from the factory.
This was explained by John Wittner in a 1990s interview as resulting from European motorcyclists riding the bikes in all weather, unlike (in his view) US buyers of Guzzi Sport bikes who he described as something like incessant polishers. The painted cases were not particularly well received when introduced.
-
if you must desecrate the factory paint, then I chose this one:

Yep, agreed. The style of the 1100 sport requires no stripes or embellishments. These things are generally used to draw the eye away from or minimise styling negatives imposed upon the stylist/designer. They are generally a slight of hand to either draw or distract the awareness in one way or another. The 1100 Sport doesn't need this, its tank, seat and fairing are shapely and rounded and it doesn't have a lot of area slab sided area that needs to be broken up or disguised.
The problem most people run into with aesthetics is they confuse what "looks good" with what is is fact just "different". The current trend for cars painted in what I would refer to as "primer grey" is an example. People react to it not because it suits the cars shape and design or has depth or highlights certain lines they react to the fact it's different. In the US especially where having something "different" to everybody else has a premium. Australia isn't far behind in this position I must admit.
So knowing why you are choosing something aesthetically is important because when "different" becomes mainstream or familiarity dilutes the "different" to the mundane then you're back to square one.

I'm getting excited now. After buying this over a month ago it's finally getting delivered soon. I got the call yesterday and it should deliver in the next few days. The title, service & owner's manual showed up a couple days ago. It looks like it has a Will Creedon chip in it as there are installation instructions in the service manual for it. The weather looks good enough that I should be able to take it out for a short ride to see what I got myself into.
