Swedish tradition which also lives strongly among of Swedish speaking people in Finland and in some areas of Norway.

Of course you're aware that this is not a beauty contest and even less like today's reality tv-format?
The girl's personality & reputation will influence who will gonna be chosen. She looks very Swedish.

Interesting!   I would never have associated the singing of Santa Lucia with anyone except Italian tenors and baritones - Caruso, Lanza, Sinatra, etc; well, it's all I ever heard.   Had no idea she'd gotten so far north ... !

We had a similar discussion last year as to why both the Isle of Man and Sicily had the "three-legged" symbol on their flags, and it turns out there was a connection much like the one you mention here.

It's why we have things like the "Moto Guzzi Norge"!
