Old thread recommends starting new one. I was looking for places for a helmet lock on bike and found two threaded holes on crossbar between fuses and fender. Using mending T, M8 Allen bolt, and a little electrical tape rigged up a method for attaching helmet securely. It takes a minute. As I don't work, I have extra minutes.
This worked on my 2018 Carbon Shine.

David -- I use Bell photochromic face shields which lose their ability to darken from long-term exposure to sunlight so I don't leave my helmet exposed after I take it off. And some neighborhoods I visit have flexible attitudes on personal property so I put my helmet in a Givi locking top case (where I keep my PPE). But I do use a Helmet Hook on the left hand grip to temporarily hold my helmet while changing riding gear or refueling. The Helmet Hook has holes for a useless lock but I shortened the hook for easier operation. I haven't dropped a helmet since using Helmet Hooks many years ago.

I have not added any side or top cases yet so I don't have a good spot to lock my helmet.
I like your helmet hook. That location is currently reserved for some bar end mirrors.

Nice DIY.
I considered the Sato helmet locks and then I realized I never leave my helmet with the bike. I prefer to carry it with me so it might absorb some air conditioning if I am eating in a restaurant or shopping.
For temporary placement of the helmet, I hang it over the mirror and you have to carefully rotate it as you remove it which would keep the snatch and grab thief from running off with it.

I don't usually lock my helmet as I livein a small town and thievery is not very common. If I go somewhere where that may be a problem I have a small cable and a padlock which I run through the chinbar and lock the helmet to the crossbar on my Audace. I don't take the V7 on longer rides too far out of the area. When the V7 eventually becomes my main ride I can secure it to the engine guard. The last time I had a helment stolen was in 1970, I have been lucky since. I have a pretty plain Jane looking helmet, black Nolan, so probably not a high priority for a thief.

I like it! Been thinking about how to do something similar.

I had my helmet and heated gloves stolen a couple of years back, I thought ratty old helmet, nobody going to bother with that.
Its a big inconvenience, are you willing to ride home without a helmet, luckily I was handy to a riding buddy so I could borrow one.

I carry a coiled cable lock and loop it through the chin bar if I'm leaving the bike. Also long enough to put through my coat sleeve if desired. Lastly, strong enough to lock up the bike overnight if necessary. $10 US on the 'Zon

I have wondered what I would do in that situation. Would a police report be enough to not get a ticket while riding home or to the nearest shop?

Many years ago, I too had a helmet stolen. A bright yellow full face. I was at a mall. When I came outside, I saw another motorcycle ride by just in front of me. The passenger had my bright yellow helmet in his hand. They were right in front of me riding slowly. Like an idiot, I yelled, "Hey!!" and of course they gassed it and took off. If I'd kept my mouth shut, I think I could have just reached out and grabbed it back. Fortunately, I was only a couple of miles from my home at the time, but yes, suddenly being forced to ride without a helmet is a major PITA. All I needed at that point was for a cop to drive by.

I tried to find suitable helmet lock for my Nevada (one which could be installed permanently ... fixed one). There were few in sale (Ebay), but as thinking of those .... how my helmet would hang ... I did not like any visions (risks of causing scratches to helmet) ... so I gave up from that idea.
Instead I bough this (below). With that I can put helmet nicely on the seat/saddle.

After having one helmet stolen. I never leave them on the bike now. Good use of improving something for you.
