Two bits of news. We're moving from West Jefferson, NC to Maidens, VA to be closer to family. Will certainly miss the mountains, but I'm still going to be a little more than an hour or so from the BRP and Skyline Drive and have some pretty nice country roads to ride on. The other news is I'm getting back on a Guzzi. 2014 Cal Touring in pearl white to be exact. Found it in FL where the owner (John) just moved from Oregon. Don't have it yet, but will ride it up once we get settled in VA. My sister in law (who lives in FL) graciously offered to store it in her garage while we complete our move... Plan to keep my HD Roadster for now. It will be a nice alternative to the CAL T. Not looking forward to the move, or more specifically the packing and unpacking, but the real challenge will be transporting my wife's chickens - all 70 of them. That is going to be fun...

I don't envy the packing and unpacking, but the bike sounds good. Enjoy the new digs and whatnot.

We just moved from South Carolina to Austin TX and I can confirm that is no fun. Movers did a great job but there are a ton of things they won't take including your chickens :) For us it was the two cats, plants, and of course my booze cabinet. The EV got to ride in the Uhaul as well.
Good news is we've done another purge after going through "the big one" in 2018. The next (last?) one will be much easier. So consider the pain your going through now will make it easier one day :thumb:

Here's to a smooth and successful transition to you new home. :boozing:

Head west on VA 6 from Maidens and you'll be on crooked up and down roads in less than an hour ....! Lovely riding all in that part of the country .....

Bill, I’m going to PM you. I’m up here now.

Welcome to VA, is a great state to live in. Fantastic roads all around you, especially to the west, and a decent Guzzi Dealer in Richmond.
As for moving, I have moved every 18-24 months the last 20 years. No fun at all. One (well maybe two) left in me before I cut sling load.

Good luck with the move! We are at the start of a 5 year plan to move from upstate NY to NC, and just THINKING about moving all my shit has me getting panic attacks!!! Ive been here for 18 years, and lots of stuff has built up in the house.. some still in boxes from the last move.

Paul, I can assure you the move (after 15 years here) is no fun! What part of upstate NY? My wife is from Canandaigua, NY. Let me know if you have any questions about NC, its a great state!

Im about 35 min southeast of Albany. Not too far from the Mass boarder. We are hoping to head down maybe this summer for a week or so and check out a few towns. Wife wants to be within a hour or so from the coast.. but between flood zones, and hurricanes its tough to narrow it down. Id like to be on a lake somewhere myself. Either way the cost of living in NY is bad, as are the 6+ months of winter..

I used to ski at Jiminy Peak when I lived in Schenectady. Nice area.

There are a lot of options within an hour or so from the coast. Don't rule out SC either. Slight tax advantage over NC and the cost of living is very reasonable when you are outside major metro areas (shockingly low when you compare it to NY). I will tell you this, the real estate market is very hot in NC (at least our part) right now. We had a cash contract for our guest house in less than 24 hours at $15k above asking price and we had our home under contract at full asking price within 7 days of listing it. The realtors are making a killing. We took the photos and wrote the description - all she did was list it and collect the commission...

Lived in Schenectady for almost 15 years. My wife and I's first house was there. Moved back home to Columbia county [Kinderhook]when we had kids. Love my town... just need it not to be in NY, and about 12 hours south of me...
