I consider Traffic to be more jazz influenced band.  The Moody's had a few songs that were a little psych.

"Low Spark" is a great tune, I'm not sure what it's all about.

Stevie W is a major talent who unfortunately I've never had a chance to see

I saw the title, and know where you live, and was thinking, "traffic?"  There ain't no traffic in Giles county!  LOL!

I always thought the ban Traffic was a progressive rock band.

Traffic in Giles County? For the most part there isn't much in Giles County!

I would put Traffic in the Jazz-Prog genre

Now, where does Zappa fit in a genre?

Yes, Winwood was a major talent and wish Blind Faith would have recorded more than one album.

Purportedly, he’ll be touring this summer with Steely Dan. I’ve seen him a few times, always an excellent live show.

That would be cool, but is there a Steely Dan w/o Walter?

I did a little research on that, I've wondered myself! It's a hardcore tune!

Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi started writing this song in Morocco, where he was getting ready to make a movie called Nevertheless with actor Michael J. Pollard. The film project fell through, but did lead to one of Traffic's best-known songs. Said Capaldi: "Pollard and I would sit around writing lyrics all day, talking about Bob Dylan and the Band, thinking up ridiculous plots for the movie. Before I left Morocco, Pollard wrote in my book 'The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.' For me, it summed him up. He had this tremendous rebel attitude. He walked around in his cowboy boots, his leather jacket. At the time he was a heavy little dude. It seemed to sum up all the people of that generation who were just rebels. The 'Low Spark,' for me, was the spirit, high-spirited. You know, standing on a street corner. The low rider. The 'Low Spark' meaning that strong undercurrent at the street level."

No shit?  Wow.   Hope I'm vaccinated by then.   Ft Worth and Rogers ARk seem on the way for me.

I wonder what is left of Steely Dan?

Well there is Donald Fagen, and IIRC, they used mainly studio musicians, albeit, Expensive studio musicians.

A friend who is a major Steely Dan fan, saw them a few years ago, before Becker’s passing, and was disappointed.

Walter would be big shoes to fill. But most connect Fagan's voice as the sound of Steely Dan. But Walter had a voice on the axe.  :thumb:

A certain "dude" we know in NWA tells me He'll NEVER go to that Wal-Mart POS amphitheater again. Might warrant a trip for some Memphis BBQ :thumb:

What's the deal with the WalMart place a Rogers?  I can always go to Ft Worth but Memphis is day's drive.

I saw Steely Dan about 5 or 6 years ago, before Beckers' passing, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Some of the old Moodys were a little Psychedelic. Heck just to cherry pick "Legend of the mind" is pretty trippy!!  But such a great band.. I must of seen them 7-8 times over the years, and every time is as good as the last! Once of the few 60's bands that even their 80's stuff was good!

Now traffic..  I dont see and Psych rock..  is was pretty different because of the jazz flavor mixed with the "world music" sound. It was kinda a new thing in popular music then. And ya...  Windwood is AMAZING. a whole higher level of talent I believe.

Walter laid down bass tracks.. all the *exceptional* guitar stuff was done by guys like Larry Carlton, Skunk Baxter, etc.
Where Walter was really good was lyrics, IMHO.

There are some interesting stories circulating about Fagen and Becker recording sessions, with the hired help. They were beyond perfectionists.

He was playing lead in KC at the Starlight I know recording sessions are a horse of a different color. Larry Carlton oh man, I gotta dig through the CD's, it's been awhile, what a picker!
