Often, when I read a comment that I question on WG, I wonder if the poster is slow, average, or sailing near the sun? Typically, if I look at their profile, they don't list their IQ. Is this because they think it might make them more susceptible to being scammed, or make it easier for them to be found on social media?
I only ask because sometimes a response from a WG member makes me wonder their IQ....... in other words, what might guide their response.
Some WG members post their IQ in their profile, most don't.
Just curious.
Mine is really hard to figure.
-
Mine is in the negative numbers but it’s all good. I have found most people who think they are smart are just pompous a($(holes. Lol. Happy New Year
-
Somewhere between 135 and 160 acording to the interwebs....... somehow I doubt that. I have no idea I probablly haven't done one since I joined the south pacfic flying club which I left 20 plus years ago even then I never saw the results. Is it common for the average US citzen to know thier number? Under what circumstances in regular life would you take a test aside from curiosity and some dodgey online thing?
-
All I know is if you can't dazzle em with brilliance , baffle em with bull shite!
-
I'd be afraid to find out. I was a 70's-80's kid :boozing:
-
Unfortunately high IQ has nothing to do with good ole comments sense. Personally I’d much rather deal with someone with common sense 👍
I also have taken the online IQ test but will refrain from posting any results because I’m afraid it will eventually reflect badly on something ignorant I’m bound to say here🤔😂
Everyone have a great and safe New Year!

With guys I've found its more about the age they stopped developing mentally. I met Michael Stipe one time and thought he had made it to at least grad school. I know I stopped around 11th grade. I'm sure Lannis didn't get past 7th.
-
If they got a big IQ how come they're on a Guzzi? OH, so they can bitch about it.

My IQ is somewhere between Genius and Dumb - dumb

They say on a normal day, Einstein needed a road map to get out of a phone booth...but on the other hand, he was brilliant beyond most people's comprehension...
They also say he commonly wore socks of different colors...because he did not care...and was on a different plane of thought, then the average person.
Everyone learns and thinks at different levels...so, (IMHO), IQ is not a measure of someone's worth as a human being...

Socks all one colour FTW!

Looks like a troll thread . How do we feel about those ?

Then again, maybe he's just being a little silly. Most seem to have taken it that way. As for me, well, I always enjoy saying to the kids, "I'm not a idiot!"
Happy New Year 🎉

I doubt it, just a different sense of humour in play.
I thought it was quite ok but then I have a weird SOH anyway.
Happy New Year guys

Sorry...and pardon my ignorance...but what is a "troll thread?"

The salient point here is that after all these years on this board you don't know what a troll thread is .

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who starts flame wars or intentionally upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses[2] and normalizing tangential discussion,[3] either for the troll's amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival's online activities or manipulating a political process.
Both the noun and the verb forms of "troll" are associated with Internet discourse. However, the word has also been used more widely. Media attention in recent years has equated trolling with online harassment. For example, the mass media have used "troll" to mean "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families".[4][5] In addition, depictions of trolling have been included in popular fictional works, such as the HBO television program The Newsroom, in which a main character encounters harassing persons online and tries to infiltrate their circles by posting negative sexual comments.[6]
Hmmmm, who's posting a thread with a little "twisted Humor" and who's bringing the "discourse"? It can be a fine line. Happy New Year!

The secret to my success is that I try to associate (ride with, drink with, discuss world events with, sleep with) with people who are smarter than me. Which is something more of us should do.

Trolls? Threads? or Troll Threads?
Ive always heard your IQ should equal your weight plus your age divided by two.

I would assume it could be either a thread about trolls, a thread written by a troll, or a thread read by trolls.
Somebody with a high IQ should Google "troll thread."

Hey wait. I used to troll alot. Cought many a tuna on the troll. Usually with a green and yellow tuna feather!

Hi all, 1-1-21
I won't tell you how I know, but one absolute fact about IQ as recognized by psychometricians, is that it is wholly dependent upon how it is measured. IQs are multivariant...they can include such things as memory, pattern recognition, creativity, sequencing, mechanical ability, even athleticism. So, when someone intimates that he or she has a high or low IQ, it it is appropriate to ask..."By what measure?" If you care, that is.
There's something else I know...I'm really looking forward to 2021. Have a happy and blessed New Year!
Be well, stay well,
DougG

It varies, depending on whether we're using metric or SAE units.

There is intelligent and there is smart. Two very different things.

I'd take common sense over IQ any day.
Too bad I was checking out the development of the seventh-grade girls and forgot to get into either line.

Hi all, 1-1-21
I've taken note of the posts that reference common sense. I do not disagree with any of them. I would like to add these two comments:
1. It has been my experience that uncommon sense leads to creativity.
2. I dearly hope that common sense and intelligence are not mutually exclusive... especially when it comes to the doctor who is doing my colonoscopy next
month.
Be well, stay well,

I'd be more concerned about your anesthesiologist, the rest is just a crap shoot!
Last one I had, they called the next day to check on my well being. I asked if they could explain the big hickey on my neck.

Yep I agree with that last sentence. Your IQ is really hard to figure out at times. After awhile i determined that something that small couldn't be measured.

When they were handing out brains I thought they said trains and hopped the first one out. Unfortunately it was a slow one.

Good one Joliet!

I don't remember my score back in grade school but I know I am no genius. However, I have a good friend who is a PhD in Math & Biostatistics from Stanford who I consider pretty close to being a genius but he says he is only good at a small number of things, such as math. He admits that he thinks that guys like me and others on this board that work on and restore cars & motorcycles are geniuses because it is beyond his understanding...
So I guess we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Me: I have mostly weaknesses...
-
Good one Joliet!
My pleasure, happy new year Chad.

Not many appreciate my kind of humor here. I get the impression it goes over their head at times, or maybe just too grumpy to crack a smile. Happy New year!

I have never known my IQ or for that matter anyone else’s, not interested. I am no genius, not by a long, long shot. From my limited experience of 40 years of work and 15 years of that managing the business partnership I retired from, hard work, determination etc trumped all other metrics. I always said to my staff that my partners and I could teach them all the technical skills to succeed in the field but only they could bring and develop passion. I saw a lot of very well educated people not succeed and many with average intelligence and credentials thrive. I believe that success, or whatever one wants to call achievements, is 80% hard work, often dull and tedious, 10% brains and 10% luck.
-
I prefer a high credit score and high net worth over a high I.Q. Seems to allow someone to get the most out of life.
While I have spent a long day doing pre dementia-Alzheimers testing which included an I.Q. test, I did score very high and was told I am very normal for my age and personal experiences.
I had the privilege to be mentored in the workplace by very smart people. Learning to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me when meeting new people. I now take the time to mentor others and encourage them that They are totally responsible for Their own education and success in life. And then sharing in this success with those that come after them.
I agree that a person can be very skilled and knowledgeable about a specific area, this does not make them smart in every sense of the word. I have met some very smart people that could not put jumper cable between two cars or tie three different types of knots.

Hey Doug, I heard your doctor is not the best one in the field but he’s “up there”
Lol, I crack me up sometimes 😂😂😂😂

After you find out your IQ Huzo, please post it. Make sure you include the units millimeters, kilograms, newtons, etc.

Well..
I just took the on line IQ test. I completed it on time and was told that I scored above 94% of respondents in the visual perception category, so they got my attention and massaged my ego enough to get my interest.
But unlike a good massage, there was no “happy ending..”
I was so enamoured with the bullshit that they’d fed me thus far, I stupidly almost gave them $19 to get the final result.
So to me, that’s proof that I become blinded when people tell me what I want to hear and I am a self congratulating, self promoting, narcissistic, loudmouth son of a bitch, with an inferiority complex...(among other things..)
100% correct...(cruel but fair... :thumb:)

From NcDan...Hey Doug, I heard your doctor is not the best one in the field but he’s “up there”

P.S. Please guys, let's not turn this into a colonoscopy thread...that would be a real PITA.

Ask him to use two fingers instead of one.
If he asks “what for..”
Tell him you want a second opinion.
If he says “don’t worry I’m very skilled, I’ll make a decent fist of it..”
Marry him... :thumb:

I thought, based on current SJW standards, measuring IQ was 'white' and 'racist'? If the rules keep changing, it is difficult for some of us to keep up. Geez.

I’d personally prefer the ANALog one.
Sounds like it’s purpose built.

I once met a boffin who was probably the number 1 bloke in thermodybamics in Australia at the time, he was working out the cooling requirements for an Orion P3 electronic update our airforce was doing.
Unkept hair, mismatched socks, bow tie with a short sleeved shirt.
I got taking to his off sider, normal looking bloke and asked him whos the guy with the bow tie?
Answer, the god of thermodynamics, and what do you do I asked, keep him alive and where he needs to be when he needs to be there was the answer.
Me Im only smart enough to work on and fix aircraft, not design them, but I have asked some design engineers WTF were you thinking when you came up with ........
He obviously never had to fix it at 2am in the pissing down rain.
So theres high IQ and common sense. Occasionally mutually exclusive concepts.
Me Ill just say im pragmatic

I believe that success, or whatever one wants to call achievements, is 80% hard work, often dull and tedious, 10% brains and 10% luck.
Success is 90% mental. The other half is physical.
