Hello,
I'm thinking of spicing up the colors of my rather bland all-black V7 III a bit for a while now...
... and thought the easiest and most fitting improvement would be to add tank decals to it reminiscent of numerous V7 specials of the past.
Like the orange/white stripes on one of the V7 IIs for example:

Now I was pretty sure I would not be the first one to think of doing that - but I can't find anything like it out there.
Not even a template to do it in plasti dip.
Maybe the wildguzzi gals/guys can help me out and point me in the right direction?
Cheers,
D.

Big thumbs up all around :thumb: ...always liked both color schemes on the old 1000S models. :thumb: :thumb:
This lovely, restored, green / black example seen at the NM Datil Rally back in 2013. It was from TX and reportedly *SOLD* for $20,000!!    :thumb:

Why not take the take to a painter? It shouldn't be hard to duplicate. I agree it is a nice tank graphic.

I don't know about the newer v7's, but I'm pretty sure the old bikes didn't have decals applied but just paint. Here's a topic where (reply #94) the striping and dimentions are very clearly shown.

I'd love to see the progress if you do decide to paint the tank.

Looks like it would be pretty easy to use some painters tape and set the tank up for some plasti-dip if that is what you want to do. The stripe follows the line of the tank where it starts to bulge out to tie in the cylinder heads, and ends midpoint on the fuel cap. Then the rest of the stripe can be worked out from there.

I really thought such decals would be available, hence the overall price would be much lower.
But if I need to take the tank to a painter, I would probably go for the even more classic dirty white:

Funny enough, those decals are still available.

Many thanks! This will help a lot, as well as @twowheeladdict's hint.
I'll have a chat with the local MG dealer/garage and will keep you guys posted.
Maybe that's also the right time to get rid of the plastic side covers...
Cheers,
D.

I'd love to see the progress if you do decide to paint the tank.
You could also take this info to a shop that does vinyl wrap on cars, they can cut them as you need, and apply if you want. If you dont like the effect you can remove them with no damage. I did this with my front fender on the v65 and have been very pleased with the look, ease, and durability.

Heading out to the Paint Shop today. After careful consideration, I have decided on the black with orange stripes on my bike. I have a collection of various bikes with red, green, blue and orange stripes over black. Orange is the final decision. I guestimate the size and location of the stripes based on pictures I have seen. The one issue is the cylinders are off set front to back. Making the alignment on both sides of the tank mismatched. I am going to line up with the cylinders on the right. The vertical angle will be 36 degrees forward.
I recently had the rear custom made rear Jackal/Stone fender chromed and made a new smaller front fender from a Jackal/Stone and had it chrome plated. The chrome fenders don't look good on with the current silver paint.

There are people (businesses) around that have a computerised system for designing & printing any decal you want. The one I know if here is Sydney is a motorcycle crash repairer (mainly). For the stripes you're planning, I do think the vinyl wrap idea is the most appropriate.
I would prefer the old 750S/1000S style stripes that go up one side, over the top, and down the other, rather than the truncated version on the V7
Good luck, let us know how you go. And remember, If there's no photo, it didn't happen.

Thanks a lot for the hints & tips everyone.
I will contact some of the many local shops that do vinyl wrap.
I can imagine the job is not as easy as it looks, given there are almost no flat surfaces on the tank.
But i will get the aluminium side covers first, because I want the stripes on the side covers too and don't see how that would be possible on the plastic ones.
Heading out to the Paint Shop today.
Nice! I'm looking forward to pics of how it turned out.
Cheers,
D.
