Marley had kind of rough second half of 2020 health wise. Without a way to confirm it appears that Marley has probably had a (stroke or strokes) since the first of the year. Currently he is very lethargic, eats only sporadically, has balance problems and appears to be cognitively impaired. Does not appear to be in pain at all. Just taking it day to day. For those of you that have met him thought you might appreciate knowing.

Never met Marley but I hope he get's better, I know he's getting the best of care. Thanks John

I totally understand. We just had a bad scare with our 14 year old fur baby, Daisy, last week. It was an intestinal issue but with a round of antibiotics she pulled through it. However at 14, it’s just a matter of time. They just don’t stay with us long enough:(

Have you gotten the 4DX test? 4 in one test for heart worm and 3 tick born diseases. Just an idea in case your vet hasn't brought that up.
-
Best wishes for Marley. It’s heartbreaking to see them ill. We have been tracking an anomaly in kidney function testing of our eighteen pounder Johnnie . He seems ok , just got another blood test so maybe it’ll be normal when we get the results in a few days.
-
Best wishes for Marley, John. Hopefully he will improve with time, rest, and lots of love. Please keep us posted.
Rick.

Marley has more friends than anyone I know , and he deserves all of them .

I hope Marley recovers fully or, at the very least, enough to be happy and comfortable. Keep that beautiful brain and body engaged and Marley might surprise you.

Well.. other than not sleeping with me so I could stay warm.. I paid 5 bucks for that..(Guzzi content) Marley's a good dog. Take care of him..and get well, Marley,

Marley update. Got more steroids yesterday and within a couple of hours he began eating again. Today he is continuing to eat better and even requested to ride shotgun when I had to take the PU to get the trash can from the road and the mail. He couldn't jump in the PU on his own but pranced walked for the first time about a month.

John, we were looking for a 'come to the home' euthanasia service, about 1 year ago. My 10 yr old Golden, was barely able to walk, wouldn't eat and was groaning. Couldn't do anything, and his hips seem to be failing, blood in his stool and vomit. Couldn't get anyone to come to the house and it was a weekend, so the Vet wasn't available. I didn't want to take him anywhere either cause he hates going to the Vet. We had already went through about 3k of 'treatment and diagnosis' to hear that they were unsure of the primary issue besides old age. My sister in law (people nurse) told me to start him on 10 mg of prednisone and for a bit give him Pepto Bismol tablets. He recovered amazingly well. He still groans, but he uses it now as communication and is so normal again. Worth a try as my Vet was amazed that was all that it took. Changed his food to some gastric stuff. too but saved his life. Good luck with Marley

John , I'm off to about the same start as Marley this morning , hopefully the coming of warmer weather will help . Give him a pat and a scratch for me.

Hey John. We are in the same situation with our 14 year old girl, Daisy, good days and bad days. It’s good that pet (family members) owners like us are willing to give of ourselves for them as long as it takes to keep them comfortable until they decide to cross the bridge, where I cDNA help to believe they will be waiting for us.

Returned from one of the hardest drives of my life taking Marley in this morning to be put down after losing a health battle. Recued him from the local shelter about 12 years ago at one year of age. He was going on 13. The picture is from when we first let him out of the car coming home from the shelter, the second of better times. Very sad but relieved for him to as he had no quality of life left.

So sorry to hear this, RIP Marley.
-
That final act of kindness is hard. A dog will endure so much just to be with you . No words
-
My condolences~:>( Loosing a pet is tough!
-
Sorry John, if he could I know he would say thanks for all you've done for him. I know you gave him the best care possible.
-
My condolences to you sir. Unfortunately I think we all know about that drive home. Godspeed Marley!
-
Been there...done that. The final act of kindness is never easy.
We always have the memories.
Marley will be remembered and missed!

Take comfort in you were the lucky one who got to claim her and provide her best life.
-
Sorry, I meant him.
-
My sincere condolences on the loss your Marley...Pets are always considered members of the family...and it's always so sad and painful when they pass on...
-
Marley will be there to play with our Daisy, and probably soon, when she crosses the bridge. Hebwas fortunate to have you for a Dad👍
-
Sorry John, I'm sure you were the best thing in his long life.
-
Thanks for all the kind comments. It is more calming now the decision has been made. The last few weeks of a rollercoaster ride of somewhat good days and more and more bad days just couldn't continue for either him or us.

Sorry to hear of your loss. We accept the baggage when we bring that dog, or cat home. Taking them for that last ride really sucks, but it is the last kind thing that we do for our furry buddies. I've had a few dogs and a bunch of cats, and it sucks the same every time.

Be at peace, John. All good dogs go to heaven.

Marley was a goood boy.

Tough times Glider.
Son is currently going through the same scenario with his Staffy, Beau. They certainly become part of the family.

All the best Marley!! May you enjoy an endless supply of bones and many squirrels to chase!

Sorry to read of your loss of your dog, Marley. My wife and I went through something very similar on Wednesday (2-17-21) with our Rottweiler, Mocha who had a local vet come to our home to help her along. She too, was thirteen and had been showing signs she was ready.

I’m sorry John. It is cruel there is such a mismatch between the dog and human lifespan.

Sorry John as I met Marley in Cedarville. I like dogs. You can come home drunk at 3 AM and they are happy to see you unlike......

Sorry for your loss. When we lose a pet we often say to ourselves, "never again". I hope you consider a Dog's Last Wish and provide a loving home for another stray just as you did for Marley.

Totally understand your statement and will probably happen at some point again in the future. For the next few years however we are going to do some bucket list international traveling while we still can, etc. which is difficult with pets.

Yeah, I'd have a dog (and cat) in a heartbeat, but we travel too much for that to happen. Well, not *this last year* but normally.

Our Daisy is nearing 14 years old and having some issues that are requiring much of our time and effort for her care. Not complaining as we love our girl and will do whatever and spend whatever it takes to see her to the time she is ready to cross over the bridge. I’m 68 and feel she will be our last dog. However we still have her cat, Tomas, to care for the next several years.

Is there any interest in a Marley T shirt in conjunction with the rally in Cedar Vale . Still working out some details as to when it will be , patience please .
John and I discussed the idea , whatever profits there are would go to the no-kill shelter in Newton KS where John met his long time friend Marley.
Dusty

Looks like we will be able to make the T-shirt thing happen. A nice final gesture to honor Marley and maybe get Chuck to spend even more in Marley's name than he has already.
The shirts will probably not have an actual picture of Marley but a drawing based on a picture. The shirts will also list the Caring Hands Humane Society as that is the shelter we rescued him from and would receive the donation from selling the shirts. This shelter strives to be a no kill shelter and has gone two years now since putting an animal down. Have maybe narrowed it down to one of these two photos. Would appreciate any input on which one to base the drawing on.

The top picture looks like it would lend itself to a drawing. Do you have an artist for drawing it? And yes I’ll take a T-shirt.
-
John, I’m very sorry for your loss. Really no good words to express how much it hurts to lose a pet that’s like a member of the family.
-

Yes , we have an artist , we've kinda been working on this for a few days . There will be two different motorcycling groups involved , so we are trying to come up with something that appeals to both groups , although Moto Guzzi will be on the shirts in some form .
To come out on these we will need to sell at least 25 at $27.00 a pop , plus a few bucks for shipping if necessary . Not cheap , then again considering there will only be a few in circulation , and that branded T's go for even more , and this is for a good cause ...Will make sure the shirt is of high quality. Am working on putting together a rally in Cedar Vale in May , just waiting for a couple of things to break . If you aren't familiar , I'll bump the thread up a bit later .

Just seeing this post now. My condolences. Been there, done that. The last time we said we were going to wait a couple years until I retired to get another one. Three months later Ollie came home from the shelter with us. Ya gotta love dogs...
RIP, Marley.
-
John really sorry to hear that news.
Having a great dog like Marley by your side is a beautiful thing, but being a good caring owner at the end and being forced to do the right thing by them is really tough.
My sympathy and thoughts your way
-
Sure, I'm in. You guys going to make it happen???
ZZ
Yeah , we are gonna do the T's , the artists is working on the design .
