Beautiful vintage British bike!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

That is the nicest "Matchy" I have ever seen.

Mine was a 1965 G80cs. One of the best bikes I ever owned. Excellent on the road or off the road. Not fast enough to win races
But I took a second place once.

I'll pay $100 to watch you kick start it JJ!

If you watch the video of the owner kick-starting it...it's not that bad...and that's because it is well sorted... :thumb:
I almost sprained my ankle a few times on my '75 Norton 850 Interstate MK-III until I upgraded the electric starter!! :thumb:

This thread needs a good picture of this beautiful bike!

Even Richard Thompson would approve of this Matchless.

Think how good that would look parked in my driveway.

The bike is a pretty easy starter JJ unless I forget to retard the timing. Then it can bite. I’m used to starting my SR 500 which has a new top end. I disconnected the valve lifter in the Yamaha so I could keep the key in the bike and not worry about it being stolen. The Matchless is much easier at about 7.5:1.

It was a photo of this Rickman Matchless that prompted me to nickel plate my Norton Frame back in 1973.

I had a high pipe '66 g80cs that was very cammy with the straight pipe and fun as hell when climbing a steep hill on song. I loved it from the moment I saw it. Rode it in an enduro w/a DNF. It wore me plumb out and I suffered a puncture w/less than 10 miles left but I was ready to quit. Asked my Dad to sell it for me when I was off doing my duty but it was a hard sell because no one could start it. The Matchless brand is a soft spot for me ever since, if I win a big lottery I'm getting a G50. When I got back to world I bought a BSA Goldstar that was very nice (big tank, monoblock carb) until it broke a rod and put me and the bride down. In those days I thought a 500 single was all anyone could ever need....times change.

Back in the day <snapping suspenders, kicking the embers in the fire> a bunch of us would ride in "the woods" in Michigan. We would trade bikes a fair amount, and one of the guys had a beat up (of course) G80. I loved that thing in sand..you couldn't kill it.
