Title: after market exhaust install question
Post by: mdhen on February 10, 2021, 03:16:32 PM
Hey guys, I am installing a zard exhaust on my v7 iii. Have a bit of an issue though. The connectors that bolt to the engine seem like they are not the correct size as they don't sit flush with the engine like the stock ones did. Basically the outer diameter section that inserts into the engine block is longer then the stock one.

So my question is, what should I do here? Is it fine as is? Does it need a gasket? Or should I go back to zard to get a fixed piece with correct dimensions?

Edit: actually looks like the stock pipes had a (smaller) gap too so I'm guessing it's not a problem

Attached some images to show what's going on

No leaks, no problem.  You may need to modify your fuel map, especially if you run the Zard without db killer installed .

Firstly, do use new gaskets. Get a few extra sets, it can take a bit of familiarity (aka practice) to get that section to sit square.

I don't know about the Zard system, but my Agostini headers are multi-sectioned also, and the stubbie section that joins the head also has a ring sweated onto it - it allows the bracket to be squeezed onto the head, tightly to the gasket, so that ring is usually in between the bracket & head. To me, your first photo looks like you've the inside bit on the outside. Keep on playing around with it, you'll likely get the hang of it (sic) sooner or later. For those of whose mind doesn't work that way (the mechanically challenged), but are OK at jigsaws, it takes longer to work out things that are obvious to others.

Thanks.

Should I use any antiseize or grease on this? Either when installing the new gaskets or between the pipe sections
