Wow, that's a hit. I know it's inevitable that this happens but wow, it is quite close to home.

Wow, what a loss. I was fortunate to see the Return to Forever band in 1974 at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, when Al Dimeola had joined the group.
Instant fan of  progressive Jazz Fusion since then.

     RIP Chick, Godspeed.

One of the pioneers of fusion.  I have a few vinyl LPs I need to play again.  Miles and RtF.

Somewhere in the 7th Galaxy..........

(I'll add, there are some folks on this board that mention an artist, band or album, and it's sometimes the same gang.  Not sure why that is the case.)

Fortunate to see him in lots of different groups over the years.  A one of a kind for sure.

RIP Chick. I had the honor and pleasure of watching you perform in Boulder about 5-6 years ago. What a treat.

It sure seems like a lot of notable people have passed recently. Maybe I’m at an age now where my peers and contemporaries are aging around me.

Just read: "Chick Corea is the fourth most nominated artist in the Grammy Awards history with 65 nominations, winning 23 times."
I had no idea.

I loved Return To Forever with Flora Purim, meant a lot to me in the 70's. Interesting side story, my conga teacher, who was a fixture of the NY scene, had played with Miles and was not shy about pumping himself up, told me this about Chick Corea, "When he came to New York, we had to teach him how to play Latin."

“What making music for people does, I’ve observed, is it stimulates what’s natural in all of us,” Corea told Jazz Times in 2020. “It’s native sense, in every person. You don’t have to be a professional anything — all you need to do is be a living human being, and open to the play of imagination.”

Yep.

The man definitely got it. He'll be missed.

Certainly lost a great human. This is the statement he left.

"I want to thank all of those along my journey who have helped keep the music fires burning bright, It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It's not only that the world needs more artists, it's also just a lot of fun."

Sorry to see his passing as he was a great musician. I saw him in "Return to Forever" when they played the pictured album below. Phenomenal! I was playing in an original fusion band at the time so this was just icing on the cake. My cousin who still plays publicly, opened for Al Dimeola about a year ago.

He was a damned good student.
