Title: Tonti Gas Tank Question
Post by: timmythecop on February 15, 2021, 10:03:10 AM
Hello, all. I have an older Police tank (I think) on my 1978 850 T3.  It has one of those plastic lids with a plastic slider to hold the cap down.  This plastic has given up and the slider jumped ship and the lid is cracked.  Can any one of yall let me know my options?  I have tried to research it, but without some of the item in my hand, I cant tell what the best way to go is...

Any and all help is well appreciated.

Not a lot of options: another "cap" of the same hopefully in better condition, replace the tank with an earlier one, expandable rubber plug with wingnut?

Someone was 3D printing the red plastic part (Austin?) but not the complete lid.

the SP has a metal lid with a keyed lock.

I am clueless as to the interchangeability amongst the lid types and the cap types.  The original T3 tank has a Monza type cap on a hinge, but I don't think it will swap over to this black and white tank.

I would also enjoy any help as to where to look for replacement parts, as I have drawn a blank.

No other cap type will fit on the plastic flap/cap tank. It was a one-off bad idea used for just a year or two on the small-blocks, big-blocks and maybe some Benelli. Short of cutting and welding a different filler neck onto the tank, I can't see any way of fitting anything but the original.

Where to find parts? Check with Harper's, Mark @ Moto Guzzi Classics, ebay. Good luck.

Great score TTC. I was going to offer to trade the one on my v50 for that great solo seat. I picked up a sportster rear fender for my G5 build.  I’m not sure it will fit.
