Need help selecting front tire for 850 Le Mans series one. Had Ching Shen when purchased, new but out of round. Any help would be appreciated!
-
What's on the back? I had Avon Venoms on my LM3.
-
Cheng Shin on back too. Am replacing both.
-
Bridgestone BT 45 Front and rear.
Ive used about 20 sets on my lemans 3, no complaints apart from wear, but they do stick to the road well wet or dry.

Michelin Road Pilots
-
I ran Metzler Laser front and Marathon rear for a long time. BT45's are good too. I'm running Michelin pilot Active now. They're sticky but comin' down fast
-
Best tires for me are Avon Super Venoms but NLA I think. I would stay with Avons, not just for the grip but they seem to turn a bit quicker than Pirellis or Bridgestones.

I used the Shinkos on my Le Mans III. Nice tire for a vintage machine. Looked right, wore well and handled the suspension well.
-
I believe the BT45 has been replaced by the BT46. That's what I installed on the 850 Le Mans that was just here.
-
Pirelli Sport Demons. I have them on the Lemans, CX and 1000S
-
I used Conti road attack 3 and classic attack on mine. Love them
-
For Amamet. Would you elucidate on your experience with the Conti "Classic Attack". Thank you for any reply. Horst.

These are the tyres I'm fitting this Spring, radials with excellent reviews.
Can't wait to ditch the Demons, lack feedback and feel wooden.
-
I to have had good results with Shinko on vintage & my 03 Bonny
-
After getting multiple Pirelli Sport Demons that were out of round (one replaced under warranty at ~100 miles) I switched to Avon RoadRunners. Now that BT46s are again available in 100/90-18, I went for them on the Lemans this time around.
As with oil, tools, sunglasses and tennis shoes, YMMV.

I'd go BT46 or Conti Road/Classic Attacks. I have been very impressed by the Classic Attacks on my LM1. Best grip I've experienced. I try not to ride in the wet but was shocked with how planted they felt in a downpour I got caught in.
-
Hey Horst, I only have @ 500 miles on the contis but they feel great so far. I felt more confident with the grip in the twisties over the summer and fall compared to the pirellis I have on my Ducati 750gt (but those are years old and on the way out)

+1 Trust us on this..

BTs' are good tires but I'm on my third set of classic attacks on the CX and best tire I've had on the machine in handling and min weight balance. Its the only "skinny" radial I have seen on the market)
PS I'm hard on tires
A winner.

Uhh.. they are black and round. They handle very well indeed.

Ordered a set of Continental Classic Attack Vintage Radial Tires :thumb:
-
A 120 fits the rear without noticeable tread bow due to the narrow stock rims

Ordered REAR, 120/90R18 65V FRONT, 90/90R18 51V . The 100/90 18 was real close to rubbing finder. First year front end is slightly narrower the 77-78.

My favorite characteristic of the Continental Road Attack 3CR Radials is how soft the sidewalls are. Put a set on my V7 Sport and the ride is almost luxurious - something rarely said about 35 mm Guzzi forks!
Even with higher pressures, they ride so much softer than any bias ply tire. :thumb:
EDIT: Sidewalls may be less stiff than on bias ply tires but it occurs to me now that the tread carcass itself is much softer on radials also.

Desmo...that's the same sizing setup I have on my 78 LM. The bike came with a 1978 date coded Avon 90/90 18 on it so I stuck with the same. I'd also read something on them handling better with a 90 vs 100. Just wish I'd gone tubeless. Will save that for the next set of shoes

I ordered oversize tires once. 100/90 front, 120/90 rear. The 100/90 front did rub and I had to take it off and put a 90/90 on. I think I still have that tire, never used. I kept the 120 rear but didn’t like how it slowed the steering so went back to a 110 rear when that wore out. YMMV

I have 100/90 road attack 3 up front and 120/90 classic attack on the rear. perfect clearance all around on my '78 lemans

What makes the first year front end narrower? I have never heard that before. They same fork widths (180mm). Is it the sliders or the mudguard?
