The front forks on the Eldo need badly rebuilt, as they still have the stiffer setup from back when it had a massive fairing on it. Without that added weight, they're stuff as a board. Could someone give me some suggestions on what type of cartridges and springs would be best to go with and where to find them? Thanks in advance.

MG Cycle used to have the stuff. Check them out. Only the disc brake model had inside dampners and less oil, Drum brake models had conventional forks w/spring on the outside.

I "tore into" the CX100's front end 3 or 4 years ago, glad I did because one side was full of rusty water. I got new damper springs from Curtis Harper and changed the rear shocks too. What a difference! I went with Bitubo's

Don't know about the '74 Eldo but on my Ambo I drained/cleaned thoroughly and installed Wirth springs (MGCycle) and they seem to be fine and put Hagon shocks on the rear.

I converted my 72 Eldorado to FAC cartridges and Wirth Springs years ago, a night and day improvement,

It depends what year fork you have, 1972 / 1973 drum brake forks are limited to oil and springs, they are a very basic fork (The internal is the same as my 1949 Sunbeam)
The Cerriani ? type fork on the disc brake model could get everything from stock to Ohlins cartridges added being removable/replaceable.

My original 1973 forks have new stanchions (the 'best ones) bronze bush kit, new seals with MG Cycle springs. (They go up and down)
I had looked at adding Showa cartridges to the early drum brake fork but never could find replacement lower sliders to modify (Add a central bolt fixture at the bottom by ship in a bottle machining)

i had good results fitting showa cartridges to guzzi forks
i salvage the cartridges from japanese bikes
the whole process is not very difficult on a disk braked V7 , on a drum braked v7 you will need to make special tooling to fit any kind of cartridge.
the bottom of the forks have no threaded hole to fix a cartridge.

Thanks for the replies, guys! It's a '74, so front disc. So with that information in mind, what would be your best recommendations? (I know, I'm opening up a can of worms asking that with this group. :laugh: )

On a budget and without a machine shop at your disposal?

The SP dampers are a bit longer though, so there might be a gap between the shroud and lower at full extension, and a block might need to be added to the sidestand.
