I have been refreshing a 2008 KLR 650 for one of my sons, it was looking tired, mechanically pretty good, usual maintenance stuff done and I thought I might try a vinyl warp kits for the bike. This was a red / silver bike, I put on repro new black fenders and picked up some better used side covers in black as a base.
The vinyl kit was found on Ebay (out of Venezuala), I took it to a pro who wraps cars. he explained this vinyl kit was segmented and the product is very thick almost came off like very thin cardboard sheet like on the back of a writing pad, he had a bit of a time getting it all on but the results are pretty nice if I do say so myself.
It completely changed the bike, not that camo is my thing personally but the young guys like it.

That's cool...have thought that might be an interesting alternative to doing a fresh repaint...looks great.
Did he take off all of the bits to do the wrap, or managed to install it with all of the parts still installed on the bike?

That's pretty cool, I've thought of lookin into getting my Tiger wrapped in a tiger stripe pattern.

All the parts were removed, had to be done to get around the gas tank and fairing parts

I have done a number of Buffalo fairings in Vinyl wrap, seems to stand up good to the abuse, this is one for one of my V700's

Thanks Canuck!
Any idea ball park how many hours it took to do the job? I'd be curious to see if there's anyone here in Houston that wraps motorcycles...the possibilities for color combos would be unlimited if they did.

The detail shop charged me $190 to do the work: two side covers, gas tank, two front side fairings, two front upper fairing pieces.
I think that was fair, it took him a while I am sure. He told me the side covers being that soft flex plastic need a lot of cleaning to get the oils off the surfave then he used some kind of sealer before he applied the vinyl. I have used this guy to apply 3M film on sevral cars in the past, he knows his trade.

Thank dog it isn't Star Wars or Walking Dead themed.

Wow $190! I'll keep that in mind for my next resto-mod.
I spent about $200 on rattle cans, a lot of coats and I'm to tired to polish it out. One thing everyone should be aware of is that you have to use 2 part clear coat to fuel proof the tank.
For $200 plus vinyl it's a "no-brainer".

The vinyl kit was appx $140

Good idea Canuck, and very good result! :thumb:

Interesting and on a new bike would protect the OEM paint. That's some backrest though the lumbar support looks a little harsh.

Hmmmmm.... making your motorcycle MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE. Good luck surviving that. :undecided:
