Title: TIRE WEAR
Post by: nsmith on March 29, 2021, 09:48:50 AM
2007 Breva 1100 Continental Conti/Motion 180/55 ZR 17 riding in the Ozarks. I'm an old fat guy, I don't drag foot pegs or do burnouts but this tire lasted less than 4000 miles. Now the tire did preform awesome and never felt like I had reached it's limit but at less than 4000 miles to the cord I'm wondering what you might say would be a good longer lasting tire?

Did you check your tire pressure regularly?  Weekly?
Were you running the MG recommended pressure?
Were you riding a lot of chip-sealed roads?  They are hard on tires.
What kind of mileage have you gotten on other tires?

I dunno, I seem to get between three and four thousand on the rears on both my T-3 and my Norge. For the first time I am trying Shinkos so will see if they last longer.

Pretty cheap to replace both tires.. Try a dual compound tire if you want longer life, and good performance. At least the Breva is super simple to get the rear wheel off the bike.. I think the Dunlop Q-3 + tires are super on the Breva, but twice the cost of the Conti you have.

I have been using Pirelli "GT" tires on both my Norge and V11 LeMans, both bikes take the same size.  I get about 6K on the rear tire, but I ride on Texas "chip and seal" type roads quite often.

Though I no longer own the 1200 Sport, I have my maintenance records:  Similar to your B1100.

First couple of sets were Metzeler 880
Several sets of Michelin Pilot Road 3 & 4

Mileage between changes:

8180
9188
11800
9000
10000
8000
6000

I weigh in at approx 165#.  Lots more front braking vs rear, other than for light trail braking.
Ran approx 37psi rear/35psi front.
