Title: P8 ECU and Pf3 TPS Tuning FYI
Post by: Tom H on April 01, 2021, 10:50:06 PM
Today I was helping a friend with the P8 ECU and a PF3 TPS. The bike was not running right and I was asked to see if I could help. I gave it a whirl.

Armed with this guide and knowing the valves were set:
https://archive.guzzitech.com/EVTuneup-Jeff_B.html

After setting the TPS base of Aprox. .150V with the idle screw backed all the way out and the linkage unhooked. The one thing I was not sure of was if I should set the idle screw to aprox .370V or .520V. The lower voltage was for the earlier ECU TPS combo. The higher was for the 15m and PF3.

I started with the lower voltage. I could not get a good idle no matter what I did. Started over with the higher voltage and was getting a decent idle.

Next was to use a carb balancer per the instructions to fine tune the RH TB idle screw and air bleed screws. Looked just about perfect with aprox. 1100rpm idle per the instructions.

I told him to ride it. He came back with a smile!

Hope this helps!

There is no "sacred screw" on this bike. The "idle" TPS setting is just a ballpark figure in the manual and not to be taken as anything but a guide to get the idle somewhere near where it needs to be. The baseline setting is the only figure that is important. If you get it idling nicely and the TPS isn't in the Idle setting range it's of no import.

I was under the impression that the TPS side TB idle stop screw was this screw. Could be wrong?

Thank you!!

No Tom it's not. The sacred screw is on later models like Griso's etc with idle stepper motors(?). Its a specific screw (adjustment) for adjusting the closed stop relationship between the two throttle bodies with regards to mass flow. Others here can be more specific.

No need for embarrassment. Most people back the TPS side idle adjustment screw all the way out and just use the L/H screw for idle speed setting. Later throttle bodies didn't even have the R/H screw fitted or the lug drilled and tapped.

Since you brought up that info. I think???? the TPS can be on the RH or LH TB. On the EV series, normally LH is the TPS. I think the Sport's had the RH TPS??? Then latter the TPS was non adjustable and was done with software IIRR. I have yet to mess with the newer bikes than my EVT.

Thanks again,
Toom

Yes forgot about that, I'm in V11 Sport mode. The brilliant idea of locating the TPS on the underside of the throttle body. Either way you only need to use one idle stop screw I believe, the one opposite to the TPS body. Yes the later Linier TPS's are set via the Guzzi tuning software or Guzidiag.
