I got tired of dubbing odd bits of music onto a video to cover wind noise from the camera, so it seemed like time to work out a better audio setup. This first try was the poster child for crude -- wrap the recorder in a sweatshirt and stuff it into the topcase -- but members of my tribe will never be known for their sophistication. The test ride was also nothing special -- just a short loop into the Santa Cruz Mountains, down Highway 9 past the burn scars from last year's fires, out to the coast, then north and back through the mountains to home -- but Skyline was glorious on a bright spring morning, and this seemed worth sharing. Here are two versions of that segment, one with just the sound of a Guzzi V-twin, the other with a soundtrack.
The question now becomes, which one was better? Or worse, as the case may be...
Pure Guzzi engine sound, with an occasional clunk from my cooler

The same video with a soundtrack chosen by our team of experts

Don't know if I can pick which is "better/worse" but there's another option...let the bike sound live & mix the music in with it. Then you can fade the music in and out (or high/low) and excentuate the exhaust note solos @ key points

Personally I like Al Stewart while riding, but as Brobro said, a mostly music underpinning with a light bike sound would be good too.

That is a nice video. And I envy you that road! It looks even better than Gazos Creek, which is one of my favorites around here (see below). I quite agree that mixing bike sound and music may be a win, but no one likes my music choices (hey, what's wrong with 'Surfer Girl' as a soundtrack?) , so I may work on improving that sound recorder setup first.
