I made an 800 mile round trip yesterday to get fitted for my first proper long distance riding suit. I always knew that when I got to the point of needing one it would be an Aerostich. I like the product and the company. And for me USA made is always a big plus. The employees that handcraft all of their gear are right on site, working on the 2nd and 3rd floor.
The drive was tedious but I am glad I went there for an in person fitting. The stock size came quite close to being an excellent fit, but was tight in the armpits so a custom order had to be placed. Due to the custom order I wont have it in time to be sporting it at the WG Rally.
For those that are interested I purchased a Roadcrafter 3.

Good on ya . At least once ya should have proper fitting gear , the difference from off the rack even for “normal” sized folks is surprising. And those of us outside those parameters it’s almost a requirement. Enjoy !

You're gonna like the suit. I was there two days ago. I didn't buy a Roadcrafter but did get fitted for one. I'm still torn between the R-3 and the Classic. The lined Classic feels much nicer but it's pretty heavy and feels like it'd be warm. The R3 is lighter but I'm not a fan of the Velcro attachment of the armor. My Darien is like that and it tends to chaff the Gore material.
I also required the forward rotated sleeves. That, and the addition of both back and hip armor put the price....up there.
What color did you go with?

Good stuff...they do have a very nice new Slate color as well...very tempting!

I'm on my second Roadcrafter. Got my first one in 1996. My Son wears it now.

I decided on the new slate for the body and gray for the ballistics.

Still have a blue one-piece suit that I bought in 1989. Have used it on some long, cold rides and it works fantastic. For normal riding. I use my leather jacket for most riding.

With riding gear you do get what you pay for and Aerostich is definitely one of those garments.
In 1981 the PD bought the motor officers Raven Cold weather one piece suits. We were personally fitted by a rep of the company. I still use mine every winter and surprisingly it still fits to a tee.

I have a 1st edition R3 that has kept me safe and dry for many miles. Sometimes it seems a bit too much but when things turn unpleasant the R3 gets the job done. The new ones must be a real treat.

I agree with the comments above. Roadcrafters are heavy, well built, expensive and worth it. I had a 20th anniversary custom fitted for myself. It has lasted a bunch, bunch of miles. Used almost all year round, but it is way too hot in summer.
I have a small leak at one seam now, but it should be easy to deal with it.
I went with 'collect detritus fast as a baby diaper, safety yellow' for mine.
Great suits- no plans to change mine out.

I use an off the shelf R3. before that I had a R-3 light. Both totally waterproof. Both too hot for summer riding-for my taste.
Going to see Hamlin next week-it'll be 40's in the mornings and that's where the R suits really shine.

This video about the R3 is very good.

That anything like an Agro-Stitch??

In person fitting?.Does that mean they measure you on site and then pick the correct sizing off the rack for you? Or is it tailored and custom made to fit you? I'd definitely be interested in the later.

The fitting starts with trying on the suit on the rack that is closest to your size (they have 61 standard sizes and most are on the rack). They will then have you sit on their "motorcycle" and advise if any alterations from a standard size are necessary.
Here are the alterations available. Insert below copied from this page. https://smhttp-ssl-26404.nexcesscdn.net/media/pdf/2017_Sizing_Charts.pdf

There are also a number of custom alterations and optional features available here.

I might find that useful then. If they have something off the rack to start with. I think the end result would be pretty expensive after alterations but would be nice to have something that actually fits. Might have to drive up there.
Thanks!

Insulated coveralls like farmers and other outdoor workers wear (very heavy canvas with quilted insulation). Great for cold weather riding!!

With my first set of Darien pants, they sent me an off-the-rack size that was closest to my measurements. I sent it back with my preferred adjustments and when I got it back, it was just right. Later, when I ordered the AD1 pants, I told them upfront what adjustments I wanted and again: just right.
I'm hoping to stop by in person next year. Who knows how much I'll end up spending!

I just got a R3 and the custom changes were only $100.00 extra.

I got the "Transit" water resistant leather suit from them before they quit selling them. (I think they have them again). It was a huge investment, but I've been wearing it now for 7 or 8 years and don't regret the investment because it's such a high quality piece of gear. I'm sure the Roadcrafter will be just as nice. Congrats. I'm limited to wearing it in cooler weather, over 80 or 85 it gets too hot, so give us an update on how it does in warmer temperatures.
