Title: Loop generator mount/alt bracket & studs vs. bolts
Post by: Mayor_of_BBQ on May 12, 2021, 07:45:57 AM
I have long heard that you should replace the studs for generator mount with regular bolts.  I have a simple and probably dumb question about this...  Does this also apply to an alternator conversion (specifically the scrambler cycle kit)?

I'm sure bolts are probably better in either case, but I don't know if there are differences in the belt tension or other factors that come into play.

So the question: Should bikes with an alternator conversion be switched off studs to bolts, or does that only apply to bikes running stock generator & bracket?

You have that backasswards! Replace the bolts with shouldered studs in all cases. DonG

Yes, even if using an alternator kit, hardened studs should replace the original bolts. I use large o.d., thick, flat washers and nylock nuts on the studs.
