Title: Name that scam!
Post by: john fish on May 22, 2021, 07:20:05 AM
This is a scam.  I got a text message saying that my package can not be delivered because no one was home to sign for it.  Complete with tracking number and a link to another site that says that the package is being held at the Rosemount Park UPS warehouse.

A brief look on the webs says that this is a scam with the goal being to get one to pay for a new delivery attempt.  In that way, they get money details and abuse them.

Checked with the real UPS site and the tracking # provided does not exist.

The phony site was awfully convincing so be careful.

And no I don’t want to reduce my credit card payment and when I have time to mess with them I try to sell them a blind mule I have on Craigs list and I can’t hear well “so you are calling about the mule I’ve hit for sell”😂😂😂😂😂

Yep! I get waves of "Congratulations! Your package is on the way" emails.

The most disturbing effort lately is recorded phone messages threatening legal action if I don't return the call.

I hate getting the fake Pay Pal e-mails.  They look legit too.

I might caution everyone that gets an unexpected Pay Pal e-mail, to not hit the link but go directly to your Pay Pal account.  Once you put the fake e-mail into the SPAM folder, you may see a totally different e-mail address than the fake Pay Pal address that was listed in your Inbox.

I've gotten those, but knowing that I didn't order anything, I ignored them.

Yep scammers are getting more creative. Be wary.

ZZ

I get those often as well...always as a TEXT message on my phone...

Just DELETE them and you will be fine... :thumb:

Over the last year, I've been swamped with fake delivery notices from UPS, Fedex, and the postal service.  And because I've been avoiding stores and ordering online like I've never had before, many of the fake emails come when I'm actually expecting a package. I almost fell for a fake postal service one that said something like "Could not deliver, $2.98 fee is due. "  For that small amount, who would think it's a scam? It's brilliant.

Apparently, my social security number has been suspended. Go figure. I pressed 1.
Hi, my social security # is suspended, what's my new one ?
OK, please give me your social security number.
The one that is suspended?
yes.
Why?
so we can process your information.
but it's suspended and therefore not any good.
we still need it.
Don't you have it? you are the one who suspended it? why don't you have it?
Sir, can you please provide me with your social security #
you should have it, you called me. I know you guys are shorthanded, but you should really be more efficient.
sir, I'm trying to help you.
Okay, let me dig it out... I don't use it often. Can we discuss the new # ?
what new # ?
My new social security number. my old one has way too many numbers... can I have the number 3 ?

I just got an official "looking" email from Amazon saying there had been an attempted sign in from Costa Rica and my account was suspended. Of course it had a link to login and unlock my account. I did NOT use the link and went directly to Amazon and all is fine. I think they wanted to get access to my Amazon account and buy some stuff and ship it to themselves.
