Title: Metzeler Block K - Tubeless on EV rim...?
Post by: radguzzi on June 06, 2021, 08:27:05 AM

It is time for a new tire up front on the Hack...

The Metzeler Block K is a "Tube Type" and the EV rim is the tubeless wire wheel...

Anyone have experience on whether I can run this replacement Block K Without a tube or not on this rim...?   The current does appear to be a tube air nipple sticking out through the rim but am not certain.

Appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Rob

I’ll run a tube in a tubeless tire but will not run a tube type tire on a tubeless wheel.

Ok, do you mean you would not run a tube type tire Without the tube on
a tubeless rim...?

The Block K is only produced as a tube type tire.
 That us the conundrum.

Thanks,
rad

I've installed those only w/tube like it says, I'm figuring they are not air tight.
Nothing to lose trying it cept a flat or leak. Then redoing it w/tube.

Tubeless tyres have an internal airtight liner. Tube type tyres don't have this liner and will leak air if used without a tube.

If a tyre states that it is tube type, then it will not hold air and must be fitted with an inner tube.

Or as one of those minor players in M/C tires states on their tires " on tube type rims fit tube" , simple ( oh yeah , it's Dunlop ) . Peter

Rob,     I have been using a Avon on my rig for the last 15yrs and like it better than the Metz. I used the Metz from 88 till 06 getting used ones for me to use up bald. A flat steering tire is better than round. Even bald works better than round. Only round one is my back. Here's tire------------------

Well, I had no idea that the tube type tires are Not air tight....!  Seriously...?

I thought the difference was to do with the design of the bead and whether they would seat properly.  Wow.

So tube it is...

Thanks Steve.

The Block K Metzler is a flat profile tire...  seen here compared to the next set of sneakers for the '04 EVT.

If I could justify the cost I would lace a 15" rim on the rear so that I could run a car tire however, the Hack does not see enough miles to warrant that conversion.  Right now anyway.

Thanks,
Rob

I’ve started using those as well and I like them better than the Metz. On the rear I’ve been using a Shinko  radial adventure type that is working out well so far but only have a few thousand miles on that. Sure has deep tread grooves that look gnarly and it’s not too noisy on pavement. I always used a tube on the Metz block K on a EV front tubeless rim . Lots of miles no trouble

I thought about getting a Block K or Avon for my Jackal rig (w Bassa tubeless wheels), but decided that the advantages of running tubeless tires outweighed the difference in steering effort.
