Title: Luggage rack for 2012 V7 racer
Post by: Billy on June 12, 2021, 10:05:42 AM
Just looking at the mounting points it seems different to a v7 cafe - Has anyone installed a luggage rack on a v7 racer? Any tips or brand of luggage rack that would fit? Do I need modifications?

I personally don’t like the look of a luggage rack with a cafe seat. Looks out of place.

If I were to overnight with a racer, I would use a tank bag and my ICON Field Pack. The backpack fits well, doesn’t move around, and the weight is on the seat instead of only on your back.

I would only carry soft things in the backpack like change of clothes, flip flops, rain gear, minimal toiletries.

Tools, electronics, etc. in the tank bag.

Billy,

The latest Racer has an optional rear rack, using the mounts for the passenger grab rails.  So that will probably fit a 2012 as well.

Which rack - OEM, HB, or other?

I've got HB racks on both of my smallblocks. I don't see why the Cafe and Racer would have different mounting points from the 2TB to 1TB models, nothing really changed with regards to where the racks typically mount. Unless maybe between the early 1TB and the late-1TB (meaning V7III) where the shock mounts might have moved slightly.
