Title: Went for a little ride on the V7III
Post by: twowheeladdict on June 16, 2021, 08:17:46 PM
I had the weekend off and took the opportunity to get in a little camping and riding down on the Georgia / Alabama line along the shores of Lake Eufaula.  My camp had a water view and although it was muggy with occasional rains I was able to get in some good riding.

Yes, there was an alligator floating out in the water.   You can see it in the upper right hand corner of this cropped image.

I did some back roads riding and explored some interesting small towns.

Someone sure created a nice classic gas station to display their toys.

While I was out riding some creature decided my spare helmet would make a nice place to build a nest.

Nice report and pix.

Many are surprised to hear that there are some fine pieces of pavement well south of the Georgia mountains and NE Alabama.

The area's slow-moving water courses twisting to the Gulf often have great curving roads along them that don't show on web maps' "terrain" settings.  Those same tertiary back roads are also near trafficless and can make a motorcyclist lean and grin at illegal speeds.  Or so I hear about the speed part.

I also had another reason to go camping at that location.

I just couldn't resist picking up this little toy!  Kawasaki came out with the KLX250SF back in 2009 and it only had a two year run.  I tried to find one in 2011 before buying my 2012 KLX250S, but there were none to be had within 10 hours.  So, fast forward to 2021 and Kawasaki brought out the KLX300SM alongside the new 2021 KLX300 dual sport.  I couldn't resist, but also couldn't find a green one anywhere near home.

I put about 80 miles on it the first day doing break in drills and am really enjoying it.

For those that don't know what an SM is, it stands for Super Moto.  Basically an off road oriented bike with 17 inch wheels and street tires.  Fun on the street, can still handle hard pack and gravel roads, and only weighs 300 lbs wet.

Yep, very deserted roads except for many deer out and about in broad daylight.

Dang thats one of the best looking V7's I've seen. You've certainly done a good bit of work on it since the Greenhouse Moto cafe meet-up!

Thanks.  I still want to clean up the tail, but don't want to lose my rear fender in the process.  Still researching what is out there.

Thanks.  I still want to clean up the tail, but don't want to lose my rear fender in the process.  Still researching what is out there.

Without chopping the fender too much (or even at all) you might be able to use something like this that's lower profile... https://www.dimecitycycles.com/hooded-lucas-tail-light-assembly-satin-black.html (https://www.dimecitycycles.com/hooded-lucas-tail-light-assembly-satin-black.html)

I used exactly this one for my v65. Your center mount hole will have to be a touch higher, but the lics plate should cover the holes for the stock taillight mount. If you ever wanted to return to stock, you'd only have a single m5 hole to worry about.  I drilled the taillight body and direct mounted turn signals to that.. but there are lots of options if you dont want to go that way.

Hard to find pics of of my bike from behind but here's what it looks like:

That is an amazing price on that tail light.  Looks good on your bike.  Not sure how it would look on mine.
