Title: LM3 Gearbox identification ??
Post by: GuzziFuria on July 03, 2021, 02:57:29 PM
Ciao Tutti,

On a LM3, is there a way to ID if the gearbox is the standard T helical gears or the ZD straight gear gearbox ??

Molto Grazie
Ciao

you have to have a peek thru the lube fill hole.

^ +1 . Plus it's probably a little noisy compared to the helical geared ones.  Peter

Certainly worth trying to look through the lube fill hole, put the bike into first or second and take a peek.

I doubt you'll see anything as the dog sits in the line of sight certainly when in neutral so it'll be difficult to see the gears.

+1 on the noise, my Sporti has straight cut gears and at times they can be noisier than the engine (and yes that's with one with nothing wrong with it)

Guzziology perhaps?

Top left side of the tranny above the neutral indicator switch is a stamping. ZD = factory straight cut gearbox.

Thanks All,

Looking down the oil filling plug was on my list, but great thanks for confirming...
