Title: Dyna coil mounting on Convert (Updated)
Post by: Rich A on July 27, 2021, 05:15:16 PM
I can't mount the coils under the left sidecover on my Convert because the hydraulic tank is there. I've read that the Dyna coils need to be connected to the frame to prevent overheating.

What I'm wonder is if there be adequate heat control if I attach the ignition coils to the frame (under the tank, probably) with hose clamps and then attach some aluminum rods or plate to the mounting studs of the coils as heat sinks.

Tnx,

Rich A

I mounted mine on the left side of the frame with 1/4-20 standoffs.

The Dyna coils are fatter, won't fit in the oem mount.

I am putting on 2 Dynojet coils on my '98 EV and will fire it up today. I noticed when I took the right one off (original) it had the factory wiring on it and on the left one had new wiring on it presumably having been replaced at some time. Unfortunately, I was having the same dilemma in how to mount the coils. There is not much room on that Tonti frame for mounting much of anything let alone the Dynojet's as they are larger and not designed for the bike. Here is what I did. I mounted them using some inner tube rubber on the back side to cushion them and then used a hose clamp with stainless safety wire around the frame. I made sure that the two terminals on each coil were properly protected using liquid electrical tape to seal out any water intrusion. They are very solid and not going anywhere. The only problem is that the covers won't fit on because of the hose clamps. After I fire her up and she runs, I will try moving the clamps otherwise I might have to alter the covers.

I figured there was a reason Rich but I wasn't sure, please post some pics when you get her done. I'm probably going to have to do it someday to.

I made some brackets out of aluminum (for heat transfer) channel:

Then used hose clamps to mount them to the frame:

I mounted the control box on the frame behind the brake lever as suggested in Guzziology.
