Title: Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp (Some GC)
Post by: Dilliw on August 16, 2021, 08:33:49 PM
While we were at the BRMC for the Guzzis in the Blue Ridge last weekend a local reporter was walking around doing a story on the campground.  We were happy to show off a few Guzzis so that she would have tons of hits on on it :)

Oh and I've been coming since 2005 but the Guzzis in the Blue Ridge has  been going on longer.

Enjoy!

I just heard that the campground bridge has washed out, and the campground is flooded.

Bummer.

That's bad.

Also see on FB that the water is to the bridge behind TWofS.

From the article:

J. Johnson, at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground along the Pigeon River on U.S. 276, described the scene as “total destruction.”

“It’s pretty unreal,” Johnson said.

Flood waters did not spare the campground. Only four of 18 guest cabins are left on the property and are damaged extensively. The rest washed away in the flood waters, Johnson said.

The campground’s bath house has a water line about 3.5-feet above the floor.

Johnson said the campground’s one guest stayed with him at his house Tuesday night. They’re both fine, but the bridge out front washed away.

The Pigeon River — now receded — has helped tell Johnson the story of what’s been going on all along its banks, with large amounts of debris washing past and smells of fuel.

“We’ve seen so many things, cars, campers, building debris, a crazy amount of big old propane tanks just coming down” the river, Johnson said.

A shame.  I know the campground was heavily damaged once before, several years ago, from a tropical storm dumping inches of rain.  History has repeated.

PLEASE consider helping them out. Here's a post from them with a link to prebuy camping gift cards:
---------------
25 days

It's been 25 days since hurricane Fred destroyed the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground. We have been quite uplifted by the heartfelt support and concern for the campground and the Johnson family from so many caring people that we are proud to call friends. You have truly been our first responders.  We are sorry and disappointed that so many groups and clubs had their events cancelled and we were looking forward to seeing you all, again. This was our first Labor Day we missed here at the BRMC since the 90s.

The work to restore the grounds and replace necessary infrastructure continue. Before we can reopen, we have to replace the bridge, the roads, and cabins. The main house, store and lounge sustained water damage that has to be repaired, as well. At this point, the campground is unable to generate the income needed to complete these projects. We are asking that more of our 8,352 Facebook followers help us out financially by generously purchasing our gift cards. You will be able to use your cards in the future by helping save us now. LET'S REBUILD BRMC, your "Little Piece of Heaven!"

Thank you for your support,
The Johnsons
