The starter motor on my V7III is starting to get a little reluctant to engage sometimes 27,000 km, so far if I flick the kill switch a couple of times it seems to engage.
Seems like a dirty start button contact but I doubt it will be that.
I haven't figured out exactly what it is yet because it's never actually failed to start but I will keep you posted.

The Start button goes to ECU input 5 and the kill switch goes to ECU input 4
ECU output 10 drives the Start relay
It may be just a dirty contact in the RH switch cluster.
I will take a look in there first.
Anyone else had this problem, if so try the kill switch.

Am I correct to assume you have ruled out a problem with the starter or solenoid directly (test for V@ starter +pos. when hitting start?) I would suspect start button before kill switch.
is kill sw. a make or break circuit? side stand safety?

I haven't ruled out anything yet, I can push start several times without it starting but toggle the kill switch a couple of times and it starts straight away next time I press Start.
Obviously I'm not too worried, something has deteriorated and eventually it may fail altogether to make it easier to troubleshoot.
If it were an industrial system I would be able to watch all the inputs and outputs individually with the aid of a laptop, I'm sure that sort of software is available to the developers when they write the ECU software but I don't think Guzzidiag has that capability. Our feedback as an owner is very crude.

I undid the two Phillips screws underneath the throttle and that exposed the switches.
The Kill switch and the start button are just crude spring loaded contacts but the mode switch is a snap action contact

Of course I cleaned the contacts and applied some of my favourite electrical lube, I'm pleased to say its now operating much better.

That return cable didn't last very long. Any idea why if failed so early?

Does your bike see a lot of rain? Sit outside or under a carport?
Doing a lot of full throttle accelerations and letting the throttle grip snap back to detent?
I'm just being facetious here, but am very curious as to why your bike is seeing this amount of wear with such relatively low miles.

If the kill switch rarely gets used thiscan happen once you do use it.I solved the problem by sprayingwd 40 in it.

My bike spends its life in a warm underground garage, it does get ridden in the rain however. Its just over 27,000 km
I suspect there must be a low spot in the cable where the water collects, it does seem very short lived, I thought a modern cable would be teflon coated but not so, not even any sign of grease.
I suspect I should have oiled it more often but I didn't have any warning like stickiness.
Had a dang tailgate cable snap while my lightweight wife was sitting on the tailgate. Fortunately only one. Other people were injured so a few months after I replaced mine there was a recall.
I am hoping to do a major service on my 2018 this winter so checking the throttle cables will be added to the list.
I definitely need to do some cosmetic refreshing. The exhaust header bolts are rusting, the exhaust is losing its black finish.

Those starters are not well sealed against moisture and will get rank inside.
