Title: V7 seats
Post by: Ronkom on September 24, 2021, 08:47:00 AM
Continuing down the road to personalize the '17 V7III Special, I MUST do something about the seat. So, in classic Guzzi fashion I assume the basic V7 seat fits a range of models/production years. Anybody know what they are? I'll need a seat to get modified & so a list of potential donors to try to buy.
Thanks,
Ron

Almost certain the small block frame from V7 Classic on up through V7III did not change at the rear seat bracket. I think all those seats work on all the model years. Once you hit the new 850cc frame, the rear frame rail might be splayed out too far (not sure).

If my amateur claim is too wishy-washy, AF1 says that V7III seats can be retrofitted to older V7 models.

The only caveat I'll add to the the V7III models with the ones with the chopped rear fender there is a sub-frame that supports the rear fender and tail light assembly. This subframe means a second set of bolts right where the rear seat pan meets the frame.

SOME aftermarket seats (my Corbin specifically) are narrow enough that they don't fit over that second set of bolts. I haven't yet tried to find shorter replacements and I'm not 100% certain yet that shorter ones would work.

I don't know if any of the OEM seats or any other aftermarket ones would have a problem there too. It's possible some might.

The V7II Stornello was the first to use that fender assist rail, FWIW.

Copy that!

I don't think I've ever looked close enough (I'm not a scrambler type of guy).

Ron,
I have a spare seat from a V7 Stone, I think it was a 2013 that might work for you. Also have a luggage rack from it.
Should be able to find it reasonably quickly as I am finally moving in to my new workshop.

There may be a bit of a gap at the front when putting a VI or VII on a VIII. Here is a pic of one on my III/ KOF can chime in if this was from a I or II since I purchased the seat from him and it is raised slightly so a stock seat may have more of a gap. This is with the tank moved as far to the rear as possible on the III.

the early v7 seats will not fit the 2021 850v7 we tried at the ga.guzzi rally.  I have a  2021 another rider wanted to see if my seat would
fit his 2020 spacial no way

I saw a V7II seat for sale, although the strap is different it fitted my V7III perfectly.

I too wasn’t enthused w/the original saddle . Currently I’m using a guzzi gel seat w/a sheepskin and am comfy doing 250 Mi. Days . Your results may vary !

I wound up modifying my V7 III saddle rather than replace it. Was pretty straightforward to re-contour the seat, then add a gel pad and better foam.

Interesting, we tried it at the national from a 21' special to a 19' Stone and it fit.
