Title: Monster seat
Post by: larrys on October 23, 2021, 07:53:41 AM
Have put a few thousand miles on it now and have come to the conclusion that I hate the stock seat. A local upholsterer who has done seats for me going back thirty years looked at it and said we can recontour the foam and make a new cover. Or I can just go buy a Corbin or other aftermarket seat. Thoughts? Other seat makers beside Corbin?

Over the years, I have had very good results with both CORBIN and SARGENT, but there are many others... :thumb:

I’d go with the custom seat personally.

After I bought my Paso and put in some seat time I realized the seat needed to be modified. I bought a used cheap seat pan off Ebay and took it to my upholsterer gal and told her whatIwould like, after two fittings, she nailed it and made the cover and I couldn't be more pleased. All day seat now.

It's called All Sport Vinyl. They use it on sea doo's and wave runners, uv resistant, waterproof and the look of leather. Not slippery but you can easily move       around on it.

I have one Corbin and a couple of Sargent seats.  The Corbin did not break in after 18,000 miles, always ROCK hard.  The Sargents were great from day one.

I have had 6 Corbin HARD seats and a Ned's and several Sargents, on different bikes, but none really hit the mark tho the Sargent was very good.  9 months ago, I needed a really good seat for my Honda CB500F twin, which had a horrible OEM plank and a Corbin possibly harder.  In desperation, I contacted Russell "Day Long" Seats in Mt. Shasta, CA.  They clearly build the seat to you, not to a common denominator seat which is the same for 134# Ralph as for a 6'9" Sumo wrestler.  Russell wants many questions answered and two photos of the buyer on his bike in two different positions; Feet down and feet on footrests.  3 month waiting list, but they don't need your seat until a week before your scheduled build date.

All up, for a small solo seat to be upgraded, I paid $524 with postage both ways.  What did I get for that much money?   I got the best darned seat I've ever owned.  As I like to say, "I paid for the best and only cried once".

My '21 Royal Enfield seat has a build date of December 7th.  The Enfield is a very good bike, but it's OEM seat is built to a price point that is quite low.

I self-modified my '04 Breva 750 seat and it's now good enough to leave alone.

Upholstery shops can get the same covering material that Corbin uses. I've had several seats recovered with it and doing that alone raises the comfort level considerably.

I have and very happy with a Corbin (gunfighter) stock replacement seat on my Breva. I did buy it used.  I don't think I could stomach the price new.

On my v65 cafe bike I had a v50 Monza seat custom shaped to fit my tank and re-covered by a local upholstery shop that specializes in moto seats, powersports, and RV/Camper stuff. It is fantastic and the price was amazing ($125!?!?!).

The Corbin is a nice piece of kit, but I deff wouldn't go that route if I had someone local to use. As a matter of fact I'm considering selling my Corbin gunfighter seat and having the stock seat re-worked by the local shop.

I bit the bullet and bought a Corbin seat. I did have my local guy look at modifying the stock seat. After discussing the options for a bit, he goes on a monologue about how busy he is... Well, ya just helped me decide on the path I'm going to take. Weren't cheap!

I like how it looks. Sitting on it, the riding position is very different from the stock seat. First decent day I will try it out.
