Title: Help with major decision
Post by: Stratodisaster on October 28, 2021, 04:37:56 PM
I’m about to post pic’s of my Norge and putting it up for sale. Most likely here ,cycletrader and maybe Craigslist. My dilemma is I can’t decide if I should cover my license plate or just go bare. I don’t want to break any laws or offend anyone by not following internet etiquette. In the past I unlawfully removed a few labels from mattresses just for giggles and that decision has haunted me for decades. Any suggestions!!

Why not just remove the plates and then take the pictures? You'll be taking the plates off when you sell it anyway.

I'm gonna go with pull or cover the plate for sure.
You can post the Vin# if you want to be at the front.   :thumb:

I used to use "Paint" to remove the numbers without ruining the photo when I posted on the internet.  Then I realized my bikes are worth more via insurance payout than if I tried to sell them so I don't bother anymore.  Now I just upload from my phone which eliminates several steps.

Me too. What can anyone do with your plate number? Find out where you live? Isn’t it in plain sight every time you ride your bike?

I do believe Stratodisaster is just messin' with us.  Fine by me, I don't do well with winter and I'll take entertainment anywhere I can find it.

In all seriousness....why do people cover / hide the plate number?  I'm not aware of anyway to look up info from a plate number unless you are law enforcement.  When I'm driving down the highway I see hundreds if not thousands of plates.... what's it going to hurt?

Be super paranoid. Cover the plate. Never give your address. Only meet at a police station. Use a fake name like you do on the internet. When you are out riding make a few turns on your way home in case you are being followed. Run a scanner over your bike after leaving it parked to detect any hidden tracking devices. Do not make your bike look attractive by putting on a fancy paint job or extra chrome.

Do a search to find the safest place to live where crime and stolen vehicles are the lowest.

Tex living free at the Oleo Ranch in east Texas. I'm posted on many lists with my real name and have visitors from all over the US. Two weeks ago I had m/c visitors from NH and Vancouver, WA.

I'm with the majority on this one.

I've sold many a vehicle on c-list and have never covered a license plate.
