Title: Rear drive seal Calvin
Post by: Tim Henry on November 08, 2021, 05:00:26 PM
Is the seal for the rear drive a single or double lip type ?  I'm getting excessive leakage on rear tire and my local Napa has a 70x85x8 single lip in stock

The spare (blue) oil seal I have is a single lip with standard dust outer.
If there is a Viton (brown) seal that fits  (I forget what I used in the bike itself) maybe they are different.

The carrier surface needs to be very smooth but wonder, if a seal was weeping could the same thing as on fork seals can be done to make sure there is nothing unseating the seal lip.
Slide something around the lip area.

Thanks. It's finally given up after 105k miles hoping just changing it will last a while longer

105000 miles does not seem like good seal value.

I would imagine a new seal and make sure the carrier seal surface is smooth if not smooth and lightly polished would get you to 200k.

I can only dream of wearing a seal out due to miles done.

I'll find out soon if all goes smoothly I'm hoping the old seal doesn't fight with me removing it
