For anyone interested, here's my 2020 V7III Stone S with some modifications, including Agostini carbon reverse cones, very short Baak rear fender and tail light, barely there Motogadget signals, Shock Factory shocks, and some wiiiiide bars...

Very sharp! My only concern would be the tiny lights on the rear as I have spent many hours commuting around the D.C. area and I might have opted for high visibility. Especially if you travel in Northern VA.

Thanks. Yeah city riding in DC can be fun in the evening, but it's not during rush hour. But these lights are actually surprisingly bright. So far so good..

Having ridden a V85 for a few years now, I think all bikes could benefit from wider bars.  Weren't the bars pretty wide on all of those 70's era Eldos, Ambos and so on?  On your bike, they look fantastic.  Great leverage.

That said, not a fan of the taillight. I feel that style is trying too hard personally.

But hey that's why there are many flavors.

These are the "2win" shocks from the Shock Factory. Guzzitech sells them in the US but were unable to get stock when I was looking, so I ordered directly from Shock Factory in France.  I've only done a few rides since installation, but they immediately feel better than stock.  They've got lots of good feedback elsewhere, so I am pretty confident they will work out.  I also plan to get some better springs in the front, and then we'll see how the suspension as a whole feels.

With regard to the handlebars, yes they are very wide!  I have always liked wider bars and with more pullback.  I just like the feel of the riding position.  The extra leverage is great for stability over potholes, etc, but definitely slower turning and a less precise feel.

Stylistically these are similar to the old "Western" bars on the Triumph small blocks, so not really a new thing. I confess that I love the look..

Thanks!  The bag is a Trip Machine magnetic tank bag. I mostly used the existing holes in the side cover but also drilled two new ones and then also drilled holes in the back of the bag and mounted it with zip ties.  A little bit jerry-rigged for sure but I think it turned out really well.  It's a small bag, holding really just wallet and phone and a couple of allen wrenches, but does what I want.  Also I ran my battery tender lead into it so I can charge my phone on longer trips.

I'll be honest I felt that way about the tail light as well at first. I was looking to put on more of a flat, Bates style light.  But this came pre-attached from Baak to the fender, so I decided to give it a try.  I got used to it pretty quickly and now I actually like it a lot.

I installed an auxiliary leather tool pouch on the ol' Yellow Horse last year.  At first I had it on the rear rack, but switched it to the front.  It carries all the emergency items you see in the photo... :thumb: :wink: :cool: :smiley:

I’m thinking also about Racetech for the front. But another option that’s looks good and seems a little simpler than the gold emulators is this Matris kit from Guzzitech:

Yes, I did the SAS block and the Evap delete, and then because of that and the Agostinis I sprung for Guzzitech's reflash tool.  Not cheap, but it runs pretty smooth now to my mind, and seems to have corrected some of the throttle snatchiness.  I have toyed with the idea of doing GT's big bore upgrade (to 820cc) but that really would require breaking into the piggy bank.  Honestly, I don't need that extra power, but it's hard not to be tempted!

A friend in IL just got a III Racer and w/flash & no-can plus the same pipes you have. His was having issues till he blocked off the SAS, then it all worked real nice. I was just wondering. Hey, smaller pistons go faster.

Looks great. The V7 is a great bike, and I really like the S configuration.

I've been stationed in and out of DC/NOVA the last 10 years, currently marooned in SC, but hope to be back next summer. I do my best to not ride in the district unless it is the Rock Bridge Parkway, lol.

Didn't the Stone S come with factory Ohlins rear shocks? Was is cheaper to replace them than get the Ohlins tuned to your weight or what?

Came with standard shocks, but red springs.

I've been wondering about this as well, but I noticed recently that the basic Matris kits do come with a piece that's supposed to change the damping characteristics, but not in an adjustable way. I've done RaceTech springs and heavier oil, and today I'm putting on new tires....there's definitely been an improvement over stock with just doing the springs and oil in the front, but I'm curious what impact the damping piece in the Matris kit actually has.

My thoughts on the stock suspension are that if you are a casual rider who rides at the speed limit and follows all the yellow speed warning signs in the curves, as well as are able to adjust the static sag for your weight rating then the stock suspension is fine.

For me, the bike would wallow some in the curves and was too softly sprung for my weight and the type of roads I find myself on.

Along with the adjustable rebound and compression that the cartridges provide I also went with new springs for my weight and upgraded bushings and seals.

On the rear I went with preload and rebound damping only because I didn't want the piggyback reservoir on this bike. 

The improvements for me are a more planted ride as well as better handling of square hits and bumps. 

Because of the limited suspension travel the bike will still feel like it dropping out from under you for larger depressions in the road which really makes you feel the weight of the bike, but at least it doesn't bottom out when recovering from that depression. 

If my goal was to ride "All Roads" I would see if I could get the suspension travel increased another inch front and back without major upgrades.

Yep.  Stone S, Bobber Sport.  I don't think it says anywhere that the S stands for Sport.

I was very tempted by the Bobber Sport once I sat on it and realized it is a standard riding position and not a stretched out cruiser riding position.

Yes, the V7III Racers came with Ohlins piggyback reservoir shocks.  Except for the anniversary special.  They put other parts on that made it about the same value as putting the shocks on.

Thanks for the feedback!  I've heard that sliding the forks up in the triple trees by 15mm really improves the handling of these bikes, and I would imagine that raising the rear instead would have the same effect, thereby serving two purposes (additional rear travel and better turn-in).  That said, with my wife's short inseam, we might not have that option.

I put the full Matris adjustable fork kit  (F15) on mine, along with the fully adjustable piggy back Matris shocks on the rear.  Spendy, but worth it to me. 

The OP’s bike looks great.  Is that a stock headlight?  I would like an LED headlight for mine.

Moto Guzzi Screen acquired from Cadre on sale. 

This looks like it might be it.  Can't tell if it is glossy like mine or dull finish.

My '17 V7 III R got a K-Tech fully adjustable frt fork be4 I took delivery. It works well w/the Ohlins rear shocks. Very easy to set up.  R3~

Bike looks fantastic! I did 10mm longer rear shocks on mine, Hagon Nitro, and that extra length, plus the stiffer spring for a 215lb guy, means the back end is up a bit more than 10mm, and the handling improvement is immediately noticeable.  Plus my tire stays on the ground and my ass on the seat. Oh, and changing to a Conti Road Attack 3 also helped a lot. And I went Outex tubeless, but apparently buggered it as I am now losing 5lbs per day.
