That’s very nice.
A modern version of the GTV, is what I had hoped Alfa would do, when they reentered the NA market.

The only Montreal I’ve ever seen in the flesh, was the one  driven by a local Pizza restaurant owner. Bright red, and stunning.

Hi JJ!

I remember seeing the GTV 1750 at the LA Auto show in the late 60"s and was dazzled. I was young and poor so ended up buying a Datsun 510.

While not nearly as cool at least the 510 was a good little car.

I did enjoy my Alfas. They were cranky and frustrating at times but had so much character (not unlike our Moto Guzzis I suppose). My wife thought they were noisy but to me it was a beautiful mechanical symphony as I ran through the gears. Thinking of getting another sports car this year and an Afla would certainly scratch that itch...

Eric,

The parallels with Moto Guzzi depreciation is evident as well. Although there are some exceptions, both brands usually have a steep depreciation curve, and then become sought after classics, with rising values.

My local Dodge, Ram, Fiat dealer had a couple Alfa sports cars parked out front last summer. We were there for service for our Dodge. I checked them out, very nice. They were marked down substantially, I could have had my arm twisted. They weren't terribly expensive and looked to me to be quite a bargain.

Was looking to buy an Alfa 916 Spider 12 months ago, they were selling $4000-$5000 for the 2ltr model $15000 for the 6 cylinder. Couldn't make up my mind so decided to put it off. Just looked again a month ago and now selling for $8-$9500 2ltr and the 6 cylinder around $25000. It'll have to wait until the madness subsides.

My only Alfa experience is helping a friend change the engine on his 1750 GTV back in the 1980's. I, like most that love Italian things look at Alfas and think how lovely they look but I can't shake 2 images out of my head from the 70's and eighties. That of uncontrollable rust and smoking exhausts, plus suspect reliability. It was rare to see an Alfa without one of these and most seemed to suffer from all three. The reliability seemed to be just the "Italian factor" and the smoking was the lack of valve guide seals from memory and the rust I heard was typical 70's car reasons combined with the use by Alfa of cheap Russian steel. Pity as I've always liked the look of them even the new ones.
The car forum I'm on a member took a new Alfa out for a long test drive and posted an image of it with the hood up on the side of the road waiting for help to arrive. Seems some things never change.

Ciao

Behind that Spyder is Andretti's Indy Lola.

I hear Indy is quite the visual and auditory experience.

Dan Cook sports writer for the San Antonio Express News said there are three annual sporting venue events that have to be experienced for emotional anticipation of the start: The Indy 500, The Kentucky Derby, and the OU-Texas Game.  (I've been to two of them.  I thought my heart might jump out of my chest. Would like to go the Derby someday.)

from the 'net

Dan Cook, the San Antonio sportswriter and broadcaster who coined the phrase "The opera ain't over till the fat lady sings", has written his last column after 51 years in the business.

[L]ooking back, it was my great privilege and pleasure to sit in the press boxes for 30 Super Bowls, 22 Kentucky Derby races, 11 Indy 500 runs, three Daytona 500s, several Major League Baseball All-Star Games, perhaps 200 Texas League games, countless college and pro football games, 25 Cotton Bowls, a half-dozen other bowls and at ringside for at least 35 world championship boxing matches.
There was more. So much more.

Perhaps even better than having a press-box seat was shaking hands and visiting one-on-one with many of the greatest legends of our time, from Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis to Ted Williams, Jim Brown, A.J. Foyt, Johnny Rutherford, and Johnny Unitas, with many dozens more in between.

Not Wednesday, but as a former but far from recovered  Alfa fanatic I have been watching this post , bu refraining to post so far.
My addiction started a long time ago in Italy , while watching Domenico Modugno sing Volare and taking flight in a Giulietta Spider in AGIP TV commercials
Here is a pic of my last Alfa resto as seen at a recent car show, sold off years ago after making a career change.
1971 GTV with a Weber carbed  Twin Spark engine, originally rescued as a rolling shell project and completely rebuilt including extensive metal work
The other Twin Spark engine standing alone lived in my  Kamm Tail Spider before getting the original swapped back before selling

I have a feeling that the current $30,000 bid, is only half way there.

It might be small, but I love my little GTA none the less!
Pretty sure that's as much Alfa as I will ever be able to afford ;)

Cheers,
D.

I love this thread, but I hate this thread, I Miss the GTV something fierce. Ive been an I-car fan my entire life, and I have had some unique ones over the decades..
Here is my current I-car. Yes I know it's the budget model, but I have added quite a bit more grunt so now its quite a kick to drive..!

So, it wasn't on a Wednesday, but I figure the end result belongs in this thread... A couple weekends ago, we went to Arezzo to check out the weekend market:

While wandering a side street just off the main market square

(https://i.ibb.co/72cNBWp/Arezzo-Street.jpg) (https://ibb.co/72cNBWp)

I came across a sort of junk shop that had something interesting inside (apologies for the glare caused by shooting through the plate glass front of the store):

Can some of you Alfa aficionados ID this? (I know its a Spider but...)
We took a different route home and made a quick stop in Montepulciano for a coffee. Sorry, didn't see any Alfas but, hey, thought you might enjoy the view anyway:

A week later, my wife had an appointment in Massa Marittima:

And, again, while wandering the streets, I came across a repair shop that had this inside (more apologies for bad lighting):

I'll try to find some Alfas out on the road... (there are plenty of modern ones all around, but I like to stumble across the classics).

What an Alfa or generally? If generally you could have one of these. AWD, 2.3 Litre Turbo, 260KW (350HP) 6 speed manual, Recaro shell seats, 0-60 4.5 seconds and handles like a race car. Out accelerate a 5.0 Litre Mustang up to 160KPH from a standing start if that's your thing as well. My Sunday drive car.

Ciao
